Contarini’s right, though. The implications people here are reading into this story require a greater standard of evidence than “you don’t think both of these people could be lying, could you?”

Of course, even if the story is true it doesn’t justify a generalization to all Wiccans. Heck, I’ve met plenty of (non-Wiccan) people who would make up that kind of claim just to mess with an Archbishop.

Yes,doctrinal dissent leads to intellectual self-deception…the ole slippery slope…like booze and other drugs it clouds the mind of men and women so they worship evil instead of Truth…and if they are in positions of power,ie Washington DC…or publish mags…or in the entertainment industry influencing others…the disease spreads like a cancer.and the body politic is infested are we not…and the worst is yet to come…if certain bills,like the hate crimes bill is passed we may not be allowed to debate and discuss like this for fear of violating a fed.statute…have a pleasant evening…N
 
Give me a @#$&ing break. That article is nothing more than another shining example of ignorance and intollerance for anything non-christian. It’s fearmongering and scapegoating at it’s finest that just blames everyone that doesn’t think what they do for the problems in this world.

Makes me want to puke.

I’d say the world is in a mess because people are greedy and selfish.
And you find plenty of that in Christian denoms, too.
 
Is this really the best that can be done?

A sort of ramble that doesn’t go anywhere ending with an attempt at scare mongering at the end?

Blaming others is just too convenient - it points the finger away from self, so that we don’t have to take any responsibility. 😃​

Christians (including Catholics) are far more pagan than they realise. The division is not between “us” & “them” - it runs through the human heart, at every moment. The world is in a mess because it is inhabited by human beings - not because of pagans or any other group. And should Christians (including Catholics) be pointing the finger at others anyway ?

Pick up a book on Wicca if you are interested in what they believe, but trust me, they do not have unlimited sex or sacrifice people, and not every single one of them worships nature. Some do, some don’t.

Please, Please, if you are going to spread something, make sure it’s the truth…

We are not showing God’s love to our neighbor by spouting lies about them. We should at least learn what they do believe so that we can better share the fullness of truth with them.

No lying is necessary. The story could easily have become garbled. Who knows what kind of practitioner of witchcraft this woman was, or what she meant. And given the number of Archbishop Sheen stories floating around in Catholic circles, I want more evidence than you have provided. Fr. Corapi may well have accepted uncritically what someone else told him Bishop Sheen said. If Bishop Sheen really told this story, it should be possible to point to the book or article or recorded sermon in which he did this.

If Catholics were being faulted for something, rather than other folk (as here), I can guarantee that there calls for chapter & verse & rock-solid evidence. But because others than Catholics are in the firing-line, no such rigorous test of what said is required. But how is that different from the rumour-mongering that has the effect of blackening Catholics & Catholicism ? 😦 😦​
