I think Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra did Jupiter and Venus the best

Let me look for that … I have the London Symphony version playing.

Actually there are some articles that say Holst was inspired by concepts of astrology on the psyche, not by the ancient Greek and Roman legends.
But his ideas ended up in the exact same place as the Greek and Roman legends.

What does that have to do with his music?

Picasso had sleazy affairs with women too, and painted pictures of them. Do we avert our eyes from the art?

Yes. It’s wonderful music.

The Hym “O God Beyond All Praising” comes from the middle section of the “Jupiter” movement in Holst’s orchestral suite, The Planets (1914-1916)
The big tune from Jupiter is my absolute favorite part of The Planets. I cry like a baby every time I hear it. It occurs at 2:55 in this recording:

Good point actually. John Williams is Agnostic but he has the best film music ever

I don’t see a problem. The anthem about 4-1/2 minutes into “Mars” is my favorite.

The versions I watched sounded a bit eerie. I think I was watching Neptune.

More than half the days of the week are named after Norse/Germanic gods/goddesses. Are you worshiping Tiw, Odin, Thor and Freya whenever you say the days of the week? It’s an inescapable reality that tons of stuff in our culture has pagan roots. Western culture is built on the bones of Roman, Greeks, Gauls, Celts, Goths, Norse and other countless tribes and bands of pre-Christian peoples. Their world has influence on ours, that’s how culture works.

Um, because there’s nothing immoral about listening to excellent modern classical music?
I agree entirely. What next? Not appreciating The Rite of Spring because it’s a ballet about a pagan ritual centred around human sacrifice?

Today’s scrupulosity variant: when you’re worried about fake gods.
