The Pope has an email address--have you ever written to him?

I was reading an article earlier, about certain reforms that the Pope wants to implement. It displayed a viable email address for him! Maybe I’m naive, but I didn’t know he was that accessible. I am thinking of writing to him, about my overall concern for American parishes, and my own personal experience with the parishes in Florida, potential abuses, and irreverence displayed throughout. I plan to contact the prior parish priest, as to why we are leaving his parish, but would this be…inappropriate to do, or a little crazy? lol The Pope is our human leader, and I imagine he cares about what we are going through.

Anyways, have you ever written to the Pope? Has he ever written back? Or at least someone on his behalf, written back?
 
Yes, I’ve written to him, both by e-mail and by letter. No, I’ve never received a response, but my letters I think never required one. (I wrote a thank you note after he lifted the SSPX excommunications) In any case, I would think that the most effective way to contact the Holy Father is through snail mail.

But… I don’t think your specific letter should be sent to the pope. I would first and foremost send it to your bishop. If he rejects it, I think (and I’m not sure) you then go to the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. That’s where your complaint should stop.

You have been most helpful, thank you. So…if the Bishop doesn’t reply…or whatever…I should take it to the Congregation of Divine Worship…does this preside over the Bishops? Sorry, I have never contacted my Bishop to complain and not sure what to do. 😦
 
What diocese do you live in in Fl? I live in the diocese of St. Petersburg…I love our bishop but have some disagreements (such receiving on the tongue and kneelers in church’s - he has spoken that he is not for either as it is not our diocese “custom”) that I know he has made comments on before. So, what I am getting at is that it might depend on your concerns specifically and which diocese you live in. If you have complaints about something the Bishop has already spoken of then you might want to go to the Archbishop.

Generally speaking the Church is a firm believer in the principle of subsidiarity (that which can be resolved at the lowest level should be resolved at the lowest level).

I live in Pasco County, and mass within St Timothy’s for example (not sure if you know this parish), is completely irreverent, and almost like a christian rock concert than mass. This isn’t just the teen mass I’m speaking of, I’m talking about 11am and evening masses on Saturdays. The priests there are amazing, we do love them, but we just can’t tolerate the ‘entertainment’ form of mass, that this, and a few other nearby parishes seem to have in common. I have even seen parishioners clapping and swaying in the pews to the music…it’s just bizarre, to me. And clapping when mass is over…It seems that the music minister there, while a very nice man and talented, has taken over mass, and the priest just follows along…seriously.

We are to rejoice, but this isn’t rejoicing…it’s like it’s not a Catholic mass, to me. So, we started going to another parish withing the Pasco County area, and these priests’ homilies are chock full of information, spiritual advice, education of the faith…it’s like a night and day experience. St Tim’s has no kneelers, I think that was a HUGE mistake by some of these Dioceses…it’s almost like they want to appear like they are not a Catholic church or something…and I think the irreverence began with the taking out of the kneelers. The Bishop is a human being, capable of making errors, and there are abuses going on in this Diocese, for which nothing is happening. (not having kneelers is not an abuse, I know, I will discuss with your privately if you like) Father Corapi said in response to an email about no kneelers at mass, and outrageous modern music, that the person ‘should find another parish, that (her present parish) is not representing of the faith.’

I’m sorry, but he is right. I do not like what these parishes here in Florida are turning into:(…and no mention whatsoever about voting prolife, and voting as a Catholic. Nothing about that. It’s no wonder some 70% of American Catholics voted for a proabortion president. I don’t want to go off topic, but I just can’t believe the differences between the churches here in FL, and up north in PA. Night and day. I don’t need a cathedral type building either to worship in…I just think that a traditional mass, should be the norm, not the exception. But, thankfully, we found a GREAT traditional parish in New Port Richey, yay!👍

I plan to write to the priest though, of the parish we are leaving…It is with deep sadness, but much prayer and reflection, that we cannot keep going there…

You might not have wanted to hear all of this…sorry.:o But thanks for letting me vent.

I try to send the holy father Christmas, Easter, and birthday greetings, in English, Latin (because I can), and German (if I can trust the online translators). The only time any"one" has written back was this past Christmas, when the mailer-daemon returned my message 😦 and said the mailbox had been temporarily disabled.

Oh, also: Taking a tip from an [thread=34433]old thread[/thread] (but not so old then), I sent a sympathy card via the Nuncio on the death of Pope John Paul II, of blessed memory. As I recall, I received a letter of acknowledgement and a photograph in return.

(I had sent it in the name of my KofC council, being GK at the time – I suspect the reply is filed with council correspondence)

am I the only lone Catholic who didn’t know the priest has an email address…? 😊😃
 
I snail-mailed him back in November. I also emailed him. (The email bounced back 2-3 weeks later.) The subject of both (same content) was definitely appropriately addressed to the Vatican and probably to him personally, since it concerned support for a recently implemented policy of his, and encouragement to do more of precisely that. (No snail-mail response either; my letter was not bounced back.)

Boy, that idea will certainly get me to be charitable!

PS. No, I didn’t know about the email address. I would think that it would need a separate division of secretaries in the Vatican just to read all that’s written there (and, I would guess, that some of it wouldn’t be anything he’d want to be told about).
 
I sent the Pope birth anouncements for my two daughters. A third one is on the way. Never recieved anything back but I didn’t really expect to. Just an E-mail to Papa about his flock.
 
I don’t know what I hope to accomplish, but like a CEO who sometimes needs to hear from the “troops on the ground,” in a large company, maybe the Pope just needs to hear from some of us, on what is happening, abuses, problems, concerns…whatever. I don’t expect him to write me back, but at least he would have a sense of what is going on in America with some of our parishes here…

I feel like I have been spoiled living in PA all this time, not knowing how ‘off’ other Catholic parishes were in different parts of the country. I can honestly say, I went from tolerating these parishes…to growing concerned…to just now, anger and sadness…but…elation at this point, in God leading us to the right home for our family. I would stay at the other parish, if I knew my voice would be heard, and changes were to be made, but I don’t think anything will change. It might change, if enough parishioners leave.:o
