:: Looks at thread title and first post:: Bzuh? Anyone who thinks that probably is paranoid and needs their meds adjusted or has too much time on their hands.
Hello i am a robot sent from the future to warn you that Pope Benedict xvi is actually a terminator sent back thru time to kidnap kittens and to steal your cheese.
:: Snerk-snerk-snerk:: Okay, I have officially found my daily dose of crazy in this thread, in more ways than one

Didn’t even bother reading the other posts. Forgive me.

To answer your question,

No. The Pope is not a Freemason.

God Bless

Greetings in the Name of the Lord Yeshua Mashiach!

I do not believe that the Pope is a freemason at all, how can he be a freemason when himself opposed/aganist the group, IMHO.

Bleesings,

Ad Deum

I think it is unfortunate that people would laugh or ridicule your question. I can see you are concerned and you should be. The thought of the Pope as a mason is frightful. The state of our church demands the question. The confusion among the faithful begs the question. Who could honestly say that man does not deserve such a punishment?

I don’t know. I hope not. I expect that the promises of Christ would forbid it. “The gates of hell shall not prevail” does not necessarily mean that this is not possible. It certainly means that the church would survive such an attack.

In order for the Pope to issue the statemnet others have posted would certainly put him at risk from the Masonic order. I doubt he is one. But the question is a serious one and should not be dismissed out of hand. We should pray for our pope, our bishops and our preists. I have no doubt many have lost the faith and our enemies are among us.

When you say that the state of our church demands the question, I have to ask you what you feel the state of the church was in times past?

Hi fleck, I agree, and thanks! 🙂 after some thought and prayer I decided that Pope Benedict is not a freemason… I really hope he is not! It seems he is a really good Pope though and is faithful to the Church teachings 🙂

God bless!

Hi 🙂

my friend sent me an email yesterday with this information saying that the Pope is a freemason. You might know that the Church has traditionally been against masonry and in fact Pope Benedict himself said, when he was cardinal, that any Catholic who’s a mason is to be excommunicated.

So I’m wondering if there’s any way to refute this, and if this is true or not… do you guys know?

fl0wer.net/blair_meets_with_pope

the reason that bothers me is because of articles like this:
chantcd.com/doct/destroy_church.htm

and various messages from (approved) apparitions, like this:
thepopeinred.com/secret.htm

and this:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_Lady_of_Good_Success

where Our Lady warns us of this sort of thing, but also she said that in the end God will win the war, and that when things look their darkest, she will triumph.

but I don’t think that the Pope is a freemason cause - he spoke against it, and also, because he talks so much against relativism and modernism and that’s a big part of the masons…the Pope is very traditionally Catholic I think…that’s why some people hate him!
blogs.telegraph.co.uk/damian_thompson/blog/2009/03/20/the_popes_worst_enemies_are_catholics

so…
what do you all think, and what’s up with the “secret handshake”, is it even real?

thanks!!
I really don’t understand how any Catholic can be so gullible to believe such rubbish or even think there might be something to it that they require proof its not true.
Grow up!

This is not a slam at anyone here, but – I just don’t understand how anyone can even consider such slander against the Holy Father.

I’m sorry, but you need to grow up. The OP found questionable information on the internet and asked for clarification. Nowhere did she claim to believe what she read, she was just asking for help. That’s what these forums are for.

Monica4316: The Pope in Red website should be avoided at all costs. I don’t know if you knew this, but the owners of that website believe that Cardinal Siri was elected Pope in 1958 and that all other Popes after him were anti-Popes. That’s why they have all that information that seems to discredit the Holy Father. They’re going to do whatever they can to persuade you to believe this.

Don’t let people dissuade you from coming here with questions should you find other questionable material.

Well, it has been suggested that Abp. Annibale Bugnini, father of the modern liturgy (Missal and Liturgy of the Hours) was a Freemason, but he and the Church denied it.

In any event he began his reforms of the Liturgy of the Hours long before Vatican II, in the late '40s to be exact, after being appointed by Pius XII to head up the Commission on Liturgical Reform. Some early reforms made it into the Breviary before Vatican II: reform of Holy Week, addition of Easter Vigil, changes to Mass and Office rubrics removing most of the Octaves, etc.

These culminated with the '61 and '62 Breviary and Missal respectively. Then came Vatican II, and the liturgical reforms of Vatican II can be seen, in some ways, as a mere continuation of the work of reforming (some dare say destroying) the liturgy which began under Pius XII in 1948.

Interestingly he was demoted in 1976 by being named Pro-Nuncio to Iran.

I think the point was that there is decent evidence to suggest that, within Church hierarchy, there are some individuals who are freemasons and that, because of this, one shouldn’t dismiss the idea outright.

And while I don’t believe that the Pope is a freemason, I don’t think it is entirely unrealistic to contemplate as a possibility that there are some in Rome who are.

What you are saying highlights the problem. Many Catholics like the OP seem obsessed with scouring the internet looking for anti-Catholic issues like subject matter of this thread. Whenever they find something their immediate thought is that it might have some truth to it. Why isn’t their immediate thought that its rubbish? So many Catholics are gullible when presented with nonsense like this.

He is not the Pope.
Indeed. But the Pope put him in charge of reforming the liturgy and we know where that went… given the circumstances, the accusation of freemasonry in his case is probably a close second to a similar accusation for the Pope.

Every pope during my lifetime has been accused by someone or other, usually by some splinter or nut case fringe “seer” group, of being a Mason. I don’t believe it now any more than I believed it of any of the others.
Reminds me of the ‘RealCatholicTV’ monologue of this past week.

Actually, people I know who were in Tehran before the Revolution have said it was great, they hated leaving, and they’d love to go back if the situation ever changed. A number of the hostages have likewise expressed regret that they can’t go back.

Really, PV, I’m not just trying to contradict everything you say :), but from all I’ve heard living as an expat (to say nothing of as a dignitary) in mid-70s Tehran was not such a bad gig at all.

Nonsense to you and me? Absolutely. But Monica4316 showed no hint of promoting what she discovered: she found some questionable things and asked about them. I’d rather she ask people she trusts rather than contacting these groups and asking them.

These are very serious things she stumbled upon. We can’t take people’s faith lightly; what you or I may pass off as absolute lunacy, some may be swayed to find some concern. Satan is working over time.

It sounds to me like you are tired of answering these questions because they seem routine to you. Fine. But don’t blast Monica4316 when you don’t know her intentions or what led her to pose these questions. That’s not fair for her to catch the brunt of your impatience.

No one’s forcing you to read or reply to anything on these forums.

I don’t know that much about Freemasonry but I do know at a certain level a Freemason is required to denounce all monarchies and Pope. (Explains why USA was started by Freemasons?) I would find it difficult to see a Pope as a Freemason any more than the next king of England.
