Dear all,

To start off, I really like this site and it has helped me a lot with certain things and I really enjoying reading and on occasion writing posts. However, one thing that I don’t like is that very often on here people misread and misquote other people and love to correct them and “know better” than they do, even on some of my own posts- changing the post its self entirely into responders correcting each other and going away from the original post. This wonderful site is to spread our Catholic faith and share it with our brothers and sisters- we should correct with love and kindness if we do and not in such a way as to let everyone else know that we know more than they do or that they are such a sinner/ in the wrong.

We have a wonderful new Pope- at first it took me a while to get used to it and to him as I am a very conservative and traditional Catholic, who loves Pope Benedict a lot- I didn’t realise how misinterpreted certain things have been…but this Pope is amazing, look at his Christ like love and manner. Outside the Church the Pope is much more favourable and seen in a better light, also within the Church and the Church itself is seen in a better light by non believers. I am not a liberal by any shape or form- however many “Liberals” have got Pope Francis wrong and he has been branded as this “Liturgically and Theologically, Morally Liberal guy”…he is not!!! People have really got him wrong in that sense and sadly it has given a huge “Boost” to the Liberals and Happy Clappies in the Church!

Pope Francis said himself and I heard him say it “Women Priests are impossible” he has spoken out and defended traditional and proper teaching on Abortion, he has recommended we go to Confession etc. but because he said “Who am I to judge anyone” in regards to Homosexuals and because he is a wonderful Pope of the people somehow everyone has jumped to conclusions that the Pope has not suggested or implied.

Perhaps this is just my nag but yesterday the Priest I am working for said that at a clergy meeting it was discussed that many Catholics are unhappy with Pope Francis and that although he is very popular with non Catholics and the very liberal Catholics who have jumped to conclusions, the conservatives feel uneasy and that some within the Church have called him the ANTI CHRIST…that is pathetic, how can anyone claim the Holy Father is the Anti Christ and then continue to say they are Catholic? I am not judging but…

Good point. 🙂

I share your respect for both Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI and Pope Francis. 👍 Unfortunately, the media doesn’t, so it smears them both - by painting one as a horrible conservative, and the other as a permissive liberal. The media doesn’t love the Pope - it’s trying to damage his reputation and his credibility.
That quote was taken out of context, as everyone except the “gay rights” mafia will admit. 😛

Well, this kind of stuff has been going on since Christ walked the earth.

His enemies called Him a madman, a demoniac, a Samaritan, a political agitator and a blasphemer. And they crucified Him.

St. Peter and St. Paul were both martyred.

Pope Francis is merely keeping up a tradition. 🙂

I was optimistic about him but have grown weary, he makes a lot of irresponsible statements

I like Pope Francis and he brings a different focus for the Church. One can not expect all Popes to think alike and priorities do change. Unfortunately, there are many of us who are rather set in their ways and some are (too) quick to judge. It impacts not only Popes but even to the junior priests who sometimes brings fresh air to a local church but is heavily resisted by the old timers. You see it in all levels and in many organizations. Some old timers have a tendency to resist “change”. I guess it is the comfort zone thing.

To call him Anti Christ, well, it appears many a Pope has been nicknamed that. It also portrays the name caller in a rather negative light don’t you think so? Firstly, we are not supposed to judge. Secondly, although one is not prohibited from guessing, it is good manners not to publicize a yet unproven statement. Thirdly, it is not very smart for sheep to call your Head Shepherd bad/ugly names. One can be wrong. If the Head Shepherd messes up, he will answer to his Boss, not the sheep.

I have yet to find Pope Francis changing any Church Doctrine. Sure, he may change some of the administrative details or some of the old guards but that is his call.

Seems to me more like the media slants their reporting the way they’d like to see him say things.

Now why would your priest make such a statement to you? …and why would you repeat it if he did?

Sorry, but I have never heard such a reference regarding our Pope from within the Church and find it reprehensible.

Pope Francis is proving to be a most worthy successor to St. Peter, and he seems to share the same enthusiasm which the first pope also displayed in the Gospel. St. Peter was known to get carried away by love, and to say and do things which appear to lack a certain discretion and forethought, which we now seem to demand from Our Holy Father. But I continue to find Pope Francis refreshing, and I am easily caught up in his obvious joy for living. Is he different from Pope Emeritus Benedict? Yes, but different is not necessarily a bad thing (and certainly does not warrant this anti-pope/anti-christ nonsense!).

Over the last few months I have watched many of my friends who want the Church to change comment positively on Pope Francis. They are looking for change so that they can continue to call themselves Catholic despite their opposition to so much of our catechism. One who is married to their same sex partner is constantly posting what a great guy he is. I have taken a different approach. When he was elected I knew that he was a humble man devoted to the poor. This was very obvious to anyone who looked at his history and growth through the hierarchy of the Church. The Cardinals who elected him no doubt knew exactly what would happen next, he is not a new man to the Church. Some of his statements are taken out of context and then spread around giving hope to people like my friend. But, I have taken the time to look at his writings and statements from back when he was a Cardinal and there is nothing there that makes me believe that he will even remotely attempt to change the CCC. What he is doing, IMO, is changing the direction of our daily lives away from constantly discussing hot buttons issues to service to the poor and needy of our world. This is what I believe, he says that the CCC is already written, we know what is says and its not changing. Let’s move on to actions and get busy taking care of God’s people the best we can.
Did you see his tweet yesterday, tell me that is not what he is saying with this:

@Pontifex: We cannot be tepid disciples. The Church needs our courage in order to give witness to truth.

OP, you are correct about how we should respond and post on this site, especially if we call ourselves Catholic. People are watching us to see what kind of people we are and how we speak to each other can say a lot about us.
