The prayer at Rosary's end

A common prayer at the end of the Rosary begins, “Oh God, Whose Only Begotten Son, by His life, death and resurrection has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life…”. Isn’t it more fitting if one word be added to make it, “by his life, PASSION, death and resurrection”? That could help one meditate more meaningfully upon what truly transpired. It would slow that part down a little but would add meaningful pause to the section of the prayer. I say it that way now, not that I’m out to make changes in this way, but it seemed that going from “life” to “death” so suddenly in the prayer was leaving out an important element. So if a question is to be asked in this forum, I wonder if official church prayers are open to changes. Thanks, all, for taking the time to read this.

No, they are not, except insofar as the pope and bishops who have the authority to do so may make certain changes in official Church prayers. These official Church prayers would be the Mass, The Divine office as clergy and religious are required to pray it, and certain other liturgies that may take place either inside or outside of the Mass, such as the rites for marriages or funerals.

The rosary is strictly a private prayer, even when prayed in a group led by the Pope in St. Peter’s Basilica. So you may certainly add the word Passion or make any other changes that make this prayer more meaningful for you.
