The pre-Jesus afterlife debate

While listening to good ol’ Catholic radio the other day, the point was made that there was a big debate concerning whether folks would have an afterlife, and that Jesus cleared the matter up for the most part.

I’m interested in the contrast between the Pharasees and the Saduccees and other groups of the time.
