What year were you born? I remember the tanks going up and down the streets of my neighborhood, I remember going into the bomb shelter, and I remember the sirens. I remember “duck and cover” drills. We were at war with the Soviet Union.
This isn’t a theory I would ever actually want to test.

Harry Truman started the cold war between the USA and the USSR when he used nuclear weapons on Japan for the primary purposes of intimidating the USSR and forestalling their advances in the far east.
Hindsite is a wonderful thing, and we can now see that what the USA really had to fear from the USSR was their development of nuclear weapons.
The USA had its chance to continue indefinitely as the world’s sole nuclear power, but gave that chance away by using its terrible weapon for political purposes.
That unnecessary use caused a backlash at home, and development of the A-bomb languished. But it caused the USSR to redouble its own efforts to build the bomb.
Now we are faced with a dilemma: give up our nuclear weapons or undergo the ravages of global nuclear war.
I prefer to try to live by our Lord’s admonitions and have my country give up its terrible weapons of vengeance and retribution.
We should be placing our trust in our Creator rather than in ICBMs and SSBNs.
To do otherwise is to insult both our Creator and our Teacher.
