The Pro-Choice Argument

To be honest it doesnt mater what the pro choice argument is because it will ALWAYS be based on selfishness - no argument I have ever heard has ever resultd in the best thing for he child its always for the mother or the father - not enough money, affairs, education, fear, too young, too old, not conienient! These are all reasons that are given and they will alays be wrong!

Whilst I dont warrant yelling at those who have had an abortion the abortionists KNOW what they are doing!!! In the UK at the moment their is a camp trying to reduce the limit from 24 to 20 weeks and in the main our government doesnt want this its cazy!!! This is despite a two page spread in the times last week showing that it is actually more damaging to the mother mentallyy to abort than to carry the child to term!!!

It infuriates me!!!
 
Infants aren’t “aware” of themselves…
What about the brain-damaged?
Those in a coma?
Paralyzed people that can’t feel pain?

Weak argument. 🤷

(“I think, therefore I am”, note that this should not be confused with folks in a coma or PVS because we know that having reached full development and been born, that they did at one time have consciousness and therefore we cannot say for sure that is has deserted them in all forms). It can also not feel pain because it has no way to be aware of that pain.

But does a fetus have a soul? Would it get a soul before the brain was developed? Or maybe just at birth? These are the types of issues folks bring up and answers can only be based on belief since these issues are provable in the scientific sense - at least not at this point. These are the types of arguments I hear so I thought I’d throw them out there as examples that not all arguments are “emotional”, these are considered “rational”. 🤷

Every living creature has a soul. The soul is the animating principle of life - it’s what causes plants and animals to grow, to reproduce, and to stay alive. Human fetuses would have human souls, of course. 🙂

The soul, which is the life-force of the creature, comes to it as soon as it becomes alive; that is, at the very instant of conception. 🙂

The concept of a SOUL is religious in nature…
As Catholics we believe that the soul also begins at conception…

A good quote from that page is from Tertullian back in AD 27…
“Now we allow that life begins with conception because we contend that the soul also begins from conception; life taking its commencement at the same moment and place that the soul does” (ibid., 27).

Regardless of the concept of a soul… general ethics (non religious) always says that killing another HUMAN BEING is wrong.

What we can answer is our LIVES all started in the same way, ferilization followed by implementation. That is the way life begins, so how can there ever be a question that it is in fact life?
 
The argument for abortions that I have always heard in “Liberal” circles is more along the lines of:

Women have been finding ways to commit abortion since the beginning of time. If it is illegal, then the richer women will still find a way to do it safely (especially nowdays with medical advances) and the low income women will find the “back alley” ways to do it, and will suffer and need medical attention and possibly die. Or not have abortions at all but then have a harder time raising the kids.

The unequal access arguement is what I understand.

I actually agree that this will happen and see this as an argument to keep abortion legal. Decades ago I had an abortion and I can tell you that what I remember about my state of mind at that time was that I would have thrown myself down a flight of stairs if I could not have gotten an abortion. This was a long time ago when I was very young - I’d prefer not to go into the painful details here but I ask that you do not judge me. :o

The above argument, however, says nothing about abortion itself, though the line of reasoning I posted above addressed that issue in more scientific terms “it isn’t a person - it may develop into one and once it does, no abortion - but stopping that development does not kill a human being. It has no brain, no consciousness and cannot be considered a human being in the full meaning of the term”. I hear a lot of folks say we should worry about the children that are already here, living in poverty, being abused, etc. They are unable to equate a fetus and a “born” child.

I can understand your above argument. I always try not to pass judgment on any person in this sort of delicate situation, because I think none of us could SEE details of anyone’s circumstances.
We all have errors in our life. Who doesn’t?
Life is a journey, sometimes we fall, but we learn from mistakes, we have to get up , move forward and try HARD not to repeat the same errors. I believe that God is merciful, and… you also need to forgive yourself, and make it up by doing something positive.
He came not to condemn but to save the world.

Most of the people that I know of who are Pro-Choice are that solely because they don’t believe the government should be able to mandate a law about a subject-matter that they feel should solely reside with the mother, father, and doctor. They’re all for less government involved in day-to-day life and this subject is included in that.

I notice the opinion of one very important person is left out of this “subject-matter”, the person whose life will end once the abortion is completed.

I have never been able to understand the pro-choice argument,
especially when the person calls themselves a Christian of
any kind. It just doesn’t make any sense at all to me that
someone who knows and loves Jesus could think that abortion
would be okay and not offend him greatly. I pray that all who
have done this will ask for forgiveness and have peace because
they suffer greatly in so many ways. They can also turn to
Priests For Life and join the “Silent No More” campaign and
make a difference.
