Why did God choose the land of Canaan as the promised land for the Israelites, was there a special significance?

God bless,

I am curious to raed the answer to my question; it’s been rattling my head for a while…

Does the events of Cain have something to do with it?

God bless,

Maybe it goes back to Genesis 9:20-27, when Noah cursed Ham’s son, Canaan, and said:
“Cursed be Canaan; a slave of slaves shall he be to his brothers.” He also said, “Blessed by the LORD my God be Shem; and let Canaan be his slave.” (v. 25-26)

The Israelites are descendants of Shem.

Other factors for the selection of it as the Promised Land probably include it being an especially fertile region, “flowing with milk and honey,” but also a region without significant natural defenses so, in order to possess it forever, the Israelites would have to rely more on God’s strength than on the strength of their own arms.

Can’t recall any Scripture as to why that particular spot on the earth was chosen by God to be the homeland for His chosen people. But there is a verse that I always find interesting - which concerns the timing of when God determined the Israelites were to take over possession from the Canaanites.
(God is speaking to Abraham in this verse, several hundred years before they would actually be allowed to take possession.)
Gen 15:16 And they shall come back here in the fourth generation; for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete;
It would be only when the wickedness of the inhabitants was “complete”. [also cf. Leviticus 18:24-25; Deuteronomy 9:5; 18:9-14; 20:16-18; Wisdom 12:3-7 (NAB)]
