The promises of reciting the rosary!?

I often struggle with saint apparitions and visions solely because of the outlandish claims a lot of them contain. Like when one thinks of the promises given for reciting the rosary it becomes highly superstitious and magical… nothing I want to be part of. At times, the way some Catholics make it seem, it is almost like a sure fire acceptance to heaven… which was a problem with scapular use before.
 
You’re not at all obligated to believe in the promises or in any apparition.

And any supposed promises of eternal salvation have to be understood against the Catholic understanding that there is never any literal guarantee of such.

Our salvation is dependent upon our acceptance of God’s saving work and graces and our co-operation with the means of salvation he has provided in Christ. That is always a given and our starting point. There are, hower, activities which greatly help towards that end, the Rosary being one.

I certainly don’t pray the Rosary because of the promises supposedly attached or the apparitions which advocate it. I do it because I like the Rosary itself as a form of prayer and a devotion to Our Lady and meditation on the life of Christ.

I pray the rosary for those exact same reasons but i have always had a hard time with messages contained in visions and apparitions because of their superstituous magical conotations. It has always bugged me and at times has held me back from conversion to the RCC. Some of the Lourdes messages are hard to digest and these are sanctioned by the Vatican as official sitings.

You might want to list the ones that give you some thinking and confusion. That could help others to give them their thoughts.
 
i believe in the promises, but im kind of worried sometimes , because sometimes i don’t recite the rosary out loud, i just pray in my mind.
 
When I pray the rosary, I mainly focus on conversion of sinners including myself, family, friends and others, peace, and holy souls in purgatory. I don’t let the promises worry me for I know praying “Hail Mary” had helped me got back to Jesus.

That doesn’t matter. Although moving your lips just a little really helps focus your mind on the prayers.

Again, none of us are requred to believe messages from apparitions- even official apparitions. I’ve never been to a single First Saturday- and I have a very strong devotion to our Lady.

My primary devotion to our Lady is as our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, since it was through this that I was converted. However, I don’t think that the medal is a good luck charm, or some magic talisman. Are there some people out there who DO slide into superstition? Absolutely. But that speaks more about the state of their spiritual development and little about the efficacy of the devotion.

If my sister uses Tylenol so much that it no longer has any effect on her, does that lessen its effects on me if I use it properly? Nope. So it is with the Rosary.

don’t worry about the so-called apparitions and messages, they are only private revelation, and most not approved at all, so are not required beliefs. just pray the rosary in the classic way, meditating on the scripture passages recalled in the mystery. there is no requirement whatever to pray it out loud. If this simple prayer is causing you worry and anxiety you need to speak to your priest, because that should not happen. Something else is going on if that is the case.

No - the most the Vatican ever says of any apparition is that there is nothing in that apparition or its messages that is offensive to Catholic faith and morals. Doesn’t mean that they’re declaring that it really happened. That’s more than anyone can really know.
