The promptings of the Holy Spirit

I am meeting with a priest in about a week and a half. I’m currently non-catholic but think I want to convert. I wrote him an e-mail explaining the undeniable thirst for knowledge of the Catholic faith. And I explained how I tried to put it off but can not deny or ignore the fact that I have a profound interest in the church and want to know more ASAP (I plan on attending RCIA in mid-August). In his response to my e-mail he wrote, “Thanks for listening to the prompting of the Holy Spirit and investigating the Catholic tradition”.

My question is; how do I know it’s actually the Holy Spirit calling me to this, or is it my own curiosity or my own will? Has anyone else been through something like this?

The Church teaches that She is the Bride of Christ, the one, true Church founded by Christ, into which God wills every person to enter. The Church also teaches that all of our good acts are a response to God, Who acts first with grace.

Therefore, I imagine that the Holy Spirit is continually calling everybody, all the time, to enter the Catholic Church, and every move toward it is a response to the Holy Spirit.

Not an easy question.

“True Faith” is a GIFT from God that ONLY God cab offer and bestow.

Two HINTS for Discernment are: 1. It MUST be a “Good” thing Spiritually

1. If it passes the first test and is a reocurring thought that is persistant; that is a VERY good sign that God IS trying to tell you something

When n Doubt PRAY about it. Ask God to make it more clear. IF He does [because all prayers for our Spiritual well-being] are answered positively, so you’ll know. AMEN!

When I first started RCIA, I was also worried that my desire to join the church was coming from a different place, not necessarily from God. Maybe my own intellect, or some other reason in my heart. But as I went through the process, I asked–no pleaded–with God to show me if He didn’t want me in the Catholic church. He never did. What He DID do was increase my thirst for Mass, for the Eucharist (even though I couldn’t partake), adoration, etc. My journey wasn’t all highs though because there were times when I felt nothing. It wasn’t a bad feeling, just a status quo feeling. Then I was worried. But by the Rite of Election, I felt that pull again.

Today in Mass, I had the overwhelming feeling (again) that I really was in the true church! I’m still in awe! I don’t know why He chose me but I guess in time, all things will be revealed. God bless you on your journey.
