I’m sure that by now most of you have heard that Sir () Elton John has determined that Jesus was a very smart gay guy.

Does anyone know what particular religion this guy is following this days - if any?

Probably none. All he’s doing is casting Jesus in his own image. I’ve heard all this stuff before. CS Lewis dealt with it his “Screwtape Letters”. The Senior Devil Screwtape is writing to his Junior trainee, Wormwood…

“In the last generation we promoted the construction of a ‘historical Jesus’ on liberal and humanitarian lines; we are now putting forward a new ‘historical Jesus’ on Marxian, catastrophic, and revolutionary lines. The advantages of these constructions, which we intend to change every thirty years or so, are manifold. In the first place they all tend to direct men’s devotion to something which does not exist, for each ‘historical Jesus’ is unhistorical. The documents say what they say and cannot be added to; each new ‘historical Jesus’ therefore has to be got out of them by suppression at one point and exaggeration at another, and by that sort of guessing (brilliant is the word we teach humans to apply to it) on which no one would risk ten shillings in ordinary life, but which is enough to produce a crop of new Napoleons, new Shakespeares, and new Swifts, (and new Elton Johns), in every publisher’s autumn list.”

It goes on.

That’s not unusual. Revolutionaries call Him a predecessor to Marxist theory; Capitalists claim He had an exemplary management style; Feminists say He empowered women and the Church should do the same; New Age followers call Him a great teacher and moral guru; the Moslems call Him a prophet; Hindus worship Him as one of their deities; Mormons call HIm an also-ran, one of whose divine brother is Satan; Bishop Spong wants a new Christianity; Nietzshe said God is dead.

It’s another seven day wonder, like the Da Vinci Code, or the Toronto Event. When Elton John is dead and gone to judgment, the Church will still be going, and Christ will still be Lord.

I saw this in the news too. I am guessing that he practices no religion. The reason I am guessing this is that at one point he actually said that all religion (I can’t remember if it was only Christian or not) should be banned because it was “anti-gay”. I am sorry he thinks the way he does about Jesus, but maybe it is a start for him. Maybe he will be thinking about Jesus more now and that will lead him to truth and salvation. We can always hope;)

The religion of arrogant stupidity?

What Elton John was really saying is that he desperately needs us to pray for him.

Really now. What do you expect from any Hollywood entertainer/producer/director? Their god is themselves, their money and their fame. Elton and his husband will be quite happy and comfortable is this life.

By the way, i thought i saw him and the husband getting married in a big church. what church was that? anybody knows?

but i think that anglican church believe in God, doesnt it?
Yes. But just because one gets married in the Anglican church - or any other for that matter - it does not automatically mean they believe in God. I don’t quite understand your question as I never said the Anglicans don’t believe in God:confused:

Some time ago I went with my parents to see Kids in the Hall live. I was slightly embarrassed and shocked because one of the first sketches was the “Soup or Salad” character coming out and going into a monologue about how Jesus was gay (*crosses himself three times oye…*). This comment by Elton John, while sad (and I pray that, God willing, something will happen to change his mind) is therefore not entirely surprising to me.

👍

EDIT: Actually, the amount of times that somebody can blaspheme Christ in this way and get away with it is rather shocking. The reason is this: can you imagine what would happen if a Hollywood celebrity said that Mohammad was a very smart gay guy? 😃

Yes. But just because one gets married in the Anglican church - or any other for that matter - it does not automatically mean they believe in God. I don’t quite understand your question as I never said the Anglicans don’t believe in God:confused:

because i think there is where he got married.

because i think there is where he got married.
Oh - I see:) I guess that would be an example of a non-believer getting married in a Christian church. However, to be fair, I do not know the entire story of Elton’s beliefs or lack thereof, so who am I to say that he is a COMPLETE non believer. Hey, at least he acknowledges that Christ lived on this earth. To me that is a step in the right direction;)
