There are no pro’s. The technology that promised to “bring us together” has turned us into a society of isolated self-centered digital prisoners, with a screen in front of every face, uncounted hours slipping away that could actually be used for living.

That happened to my sister for being pro-life. FB told her she had to send them a copy of her driver’s license to prove she is who she says she is. Can you imagine sending a copy of your license to people you don’t know? In this day and age of Identity Theft? She refused and was banned.

Meanwhile, my cat has his own FB page.

They ban you even IF you send all the questionable data they request. If you use a search engine with the terms ‘banned from Facebook,’ you may see some shockers.
 
I’m like you. I do not have a Facebook account and have no desire to get one. It is a complete waste of time and energy. Why would anyone put their personal information out there for everyone to see. Yes, it can be protected with passwords but I’m sure some hackers can get into your account. I will NEVER get on Facebook.

Also, I one of the few people who don’t have a cell phone either, don’t want one, don’t need one.

Although there are plenty of cons that could be mentioned, the one that’s been bugging me recently is the fact that there’s so much smutty, vulgar, profanity-laced and semi-pornographic content on there and there’s no way to block or filter that sort of material short of unfollowing the people who post it. Reporting it doesn’t do any good because anything short of hardcore pornography is ignored. As a result, I’ve recently had to unfollow several old friends who insisted on posting really objectionable material.

Like so many programmes on tv ,so much time can be spent watching others living their lives while a person sits there and dreams .

Wow, I have never seen anything remotely porno there … A little bad language … On the stuff I don’t like (witch craft - a few former co-workers followed the occult) I simply asked not to see anything like it by clicking the top right of the square … Voila, no more witches and I still get to hang with those lost souls. They’ve probably done the same to me.😀

I guess it’s probably birds of a feather flock together sorta thing.
 
Some of my favorite Facebook experiences involve Catholic groups, including several for Catholic moms – all orthodox, all reaffirming, all supportive. Facebook users partially control what they see. I have many Facebook friends but I don’t see all of their posts because I’m selective about which I’m shown. I live several states away from all of my family and I appreciate being able to maintain contact with them, hear about their lives, and respond to their prayer requests. I could never keep in touch with all of them via phone, email, or letters – partially because I don’t have the time to do so and partially because I’ve just established relationships with some of them (cousins especially) thanks to Facebook.

I’ve never seen anything pornographic on Facebook.
 
Pros:
  1. CAN help you stay in touch with friends and family. Not a replacement for email or phone obviously, but it’s better than nothing.
  2. Depending on what pages you follow, you can find some uplifting and helpful information. I follow a lot of Catholic pages and authors, and also non-Catholics, and both have helped me learn things I never would have had the opportunity to learn otherwise.
  3. Entertainment. Again it depends on the pages you follow but sometimes I just want a laugh or smile and I can pretty much always get one on Facebook.
  4. If you have a business it can be helpful in reaching more people with your product.
Cons:
  1. Can be a major time sucker. But so can this forum.
Those are the pros and cons for me. It really depends on your friends and the pages you follow. My experience has been mostly positive and I’m glad I have it, but not everyone uses it the way I do.
 
Facebook was a waste of time for me and my wife. We decided to cancel our accounts. We are reachable by e-mail, phone, etc… We do great! We do not feel we are missing out.
 
I have never had a Facebook account. I remember when I was in highschool I used to be bothered by weekly “so and so wants you to join facebook” emails. Glad that’s over.

I also do not have a Twitter, Instragram, or any other social media account. I will never have any of these either. Tarpeian Rock sums up my opinion on social media.

If people want to talk to me, I have a Skype account that’s always on. Even though I say this, people complain that they actually have to talk to someone :confused:

A friend of mine was telling me that he watched The Breakfast Club over the weekend. I told him kids nowadays could never relate to that movie because an honest remake would have all of them with their noses buried in their phone all day, not once speaking to any of the others.

Now that really bugs me. Yesterday the neighbors came back from walking their dog and both had their faces buried in their phones.

We were watching “Wall-E” and how everyone had automatic chairs and they spent their free time on their communication device. How fast that came to be.
