I saw this and am wondering how to respond: How is Pope Francis Peter the Roman?The prophecy has been fulfilled.All popes come from Europe. Since this guy has not come from Europe, its not legally recognised, even if the cardinals elected that guy.*Therefore the camarlengo is legally still in charge.And who runs that?Tarcisio Pietro Evasio Bertone aka PETER THE ROMAN.Everyone has been fooled…Armageddon awaits!!enterthetruth

I’d ask these people where they are getting the ideas that Popes must be European or that there are true prophesies about Peter the Roman. (Ask them if THEY believe the Prophecy of St. Malachy because the Catholic Church certainly never gave it official recognition.)

(And all Cardinals do hold titles as bishops of churches in Rome so in that sense this Pope has a European connection as would any other Cardinal who might have been elected Pope.)

I wouldn’t hold out a lot of hope of getting any kind of positive reply to anything you could say to such people.

Yikes, well first I would respond by arguing poor grammar on the part of the ranter! LOL

Seriously, I don’t even know where to start.
  1. Not all Popes come from Europe. Indeed in the last 1000 years all Popes have come from a European nation but before than there were North Africans and I believe some from the middle/near east. This immediately invalidates everything further in this ranters rant.
  2. The Carmarlengo is not “Pope” during Sede Vacante.
  3. “Armageddon awaits” - I believe there was another prophecy that stated this… Revelations anyone. Yup we all know Armageddon awaits, we just don’t know the time or date of it, only God.
Best advice… ignore it completely. It’s not worth your time or effort.

The prophecies are made up, the made up prophecies don’t reference “people in charge of the vatican” but popes, and popes don’t have to be from Europe. It’s not even self-consistent - Even if by some stretch of the deranged imagination, Cardinal Bertone was still in charge, he’s not a pope, so couldn’t be the non-existent Peter the Roman.

Basically if the world ends any time soon, it will be because God has a sense of humor.

This argument is not only irrational, it’s downright moronic. The next time someone brings it up, tell them that they should thank God Heaven’s admissions policy isn’t based on IQ.

But I digress, you asked for a calm response.

Ask them this:

“If it’s true, then why are they bothering you about it instead of preparing their soul for the afterlife?” If they’re one of the sola-fida types they’ll say they don’t need to (poor, misguided souls), to which you can respond: “Then what exactly do you hope to gain by bugging me about it, what’s done is done, enjoy Heaven if you get there.” Then you can walk away, because they’re not actually going to listen to any rational rebuttal, seeing as how their entire arguemnt is founded on an irrational premise.
 
Like another said the carmarlengo isnt the pope.

and since those dopey Malachi’s prophecies about the popes, it doesnt even fit.

It’s all just dopey.

However I think the title of the thread is all wrong. There is no protestant objection.

Just the loopies out there who are into conspiracy theories.

This sounds like the rantings of a lunatic and certainly does not represent the views of myself or any other protestant that I know. I think it would be best to ignore such things and pray that God will show them the truth. I know of no such prophesies that they are talking about. I, and several other of my friends are excited by the election of Pope Francis. I believe he is exactly what the church needs right now. There will always be doomsayers and conspiracy theorists. But God is in charge and He will show us what to respond or do, if needed.

Every article I read about our new Holy Father fills my soul with such warmth and happiness to be an extremely small part of the Church. I feel like I am watching a future saint. His humility is beyond words.
 
I’d ask them where the “Peter the Roman” prophecy is in the Bible. 😉

After all, they always criticize the Church because they rely solely on (their interpretation of) the Bible alone.

When they say it is from the “prophecy” of St. Malachy, express shock at this unbiblical way of thinking.

Did God say all Popes must come from Europe? If He did, who says He did? I was under the impression Catholicism was universal, not European. As such, why would nationality be important to God?

Armageddon? What’s that? Something in the book of Revelation no one as yet knows what it is? Why trouble ourselves with what we do not know? Let’s trouble ourselves with what we do know. Living the Gospel now irrespective of Armageddon. If Armageddon is going to happen it will, and there is nothing we can do about that. If it is not going to happen, it will not. So, we don’t need to fret.

Just say the prophecy was bogus to begin in and when false prophecies fail like they always do then, they are unwilling to admit they believed in a lie and then twist a lie even further to cover their stupidity.

Simple. If Bertone was meant to be Peter the Roman then why on earth would he NOT have been elected Pope at the conclave? It’s not like be was not there, or ineligible for election or anything. 🤷

Pope Evaristus in Israel
Pope Anicetus in Syria
Pope Victor I in North Africa
Pope Miltiades in Africa
Pope Gelasius I in Africa
Pope Theodore I in Israel
Pope John V in Syria
Pope Sisinnius in Syria
Pope Constantine in Syria
Pope Gregory III in Syria

Those are the ones where I could find their place of birth listed.
