its a nice theory. it is very ineffective in practice. there are some very shoddy operators in the industry. Captive bolts have to be in the right spot. or no dice.
the entire industry needs an overhaul. and thats not even discussing halal or kosher methos

BroIgnatius:
Man has dominion over the animals as shown in the Creation story of Genesis. Adam was given the task of naming the animals. To name something, in biblical economy, means that one has domination over it. This is why in exorcisms the priest asks for the name of the demon.
We name just about everything we see including The galaxy MACS0647-JD over which we clearly have no “dominion”.
You will have to argue with God. It is his economy for man on earth.

Not all things we name are subject to us. That doesn’t change the fact that many things we name are. Hmmm, like dogs, boats, kids corporations.

But somehow you think galaxy naming makes null the meaning of Adam’s act of naming in Genesis.

I think as long as they get to walk around flap their wings, you know, peck the ground socialize a little while we grow them. Yeah? I’m far far from being knowledgeable about the industry.
I have been in poultry houses, watched them gather the chickens, watched the processing line every step of the way. In my opinion, it’s about as humane as you can get, understanding that the poultry do get killed.

I have been in hog-raising facilities and in processing plants, and I would say the raising facilities aren’t as easy as the poultry houses, but the processing is not significantly less humane.

I raise cattle myself, and they live in luxury compared to what wild cattle would live with. There are four phases to beef production. First, the cow/calf operation. Pretty benign. Then there’s “backgrounding”, also just young animals eating the green leaves of things like wheat or rye grass. Then there’s feed lot, which is not terrible, but it’s aesthetically disgusting (and not really needed) and then there’s processing. I have never been in a beef processing plant, but I suspect it’s a lot like hog processing.

I think animals are part of an ecosystem God made simply because He loves it. And I believe people are part of that, and are meant to be part of it. Something we need to realize is that fully 1/3 of the habitable part of the world’s surface is grassland. It won’t grow anything else. People can’t digest grass. So, for that 1/3 of the world, God has given us ruminant animals that can eat grass and turn it into high-quality protein that we can digest.

As I said, I believe we’re part of the ecosystem, and our raising and eating ruminant animals is part of it every bit as much as tigers in the jungle are.

I do not look very closely to see whether something contains milk or eggs and I have been known to eat a bit of animal flesh from time to time if the situation seems to call for it.
Oh, so you’re more what we traditionally call a vegetarian.
I am mainly talking about animals for eating not other uses.
So, do you think we’re free to use animals to pull carts, to carry people, to search for mines, to find diseases, etc.
But in all cases they must not be abused or maltreated.
What about vaccines? Do you realize that they are tested on animals before they are used on humans?
I think they give plenty of glory to God without our involvement.

I think that they give more glory to God when they fulfill what God intended for them:

Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

And God intended that they be ruled by mankind.

People can’t digest grass. So, for that 1/3 of the world, God has given us ruminant animals that can eat grass and turn it into high-quality protein that we can digest.
Never saw it that way.:+1:t2:

Only a very few years ago, northern Africa was grassland and dates and wheat and vineyards. Now it’s all sand.

Look up Septimius Sam and his city in the center of the northern Africa coast.

Leptis Magna.

60,000 people working in a huge city shipping grain to Rome.

Not anymore.

I recall reading that some Roman commentator wrote that one could ride one’s horse from Tunis to Tripoli without ever leaving the shade of alive trees.

Actually, we can eat grass. It’s a grain. Just because we can’t eat the leaves like a cow, does not mean it’s inedible. We don’t eat the leaves of most of the plants out there. For example, we don’t eat apple and pear leaves. But we do eat the fruit of these plants. In the same way, the fruit (or seed) of grass is the grain. And man has been eating grass from time immemorial. Except today, we call it wheat, oats, corn, etc.

However, the grain from grass that grows in people’s yards remains edible. Just make sure to wash off the pesticides.

I lean toward Veganism for all sorts of reasons from health to compassion for the animals. When I share my views I often hear religious people tell me that God created them for human use.
I love to eat animals. There is nothing like tearing through the flesh of chicken with my teeth. And while i do it, i imagine the animal is still alive as i munch on its limp body…

And then i pound my chest with my two fists and yell "that’s what you call a good dinner".

More power to ya. But when you beat your chest remember even gorillas are vegetarians.

That sounds too anthropocentric to me, as if all things were created just for humans and have no innate God given value. It seems to me that all creation and all creatures give glory to God and that is their purpose… to give glory to God simply by being as God created them to be regardless of their usefulness or hindrance for human well being.

I was wondering how many here feel that animals were created mainly for humans to eat.
Cats are here to be pampered. If you are not pampering a cat, you are not fulfilling your purpose. 🙂

PS: under no circumstances are you ever to bite a cat, so no to eating cats.

I am with you.All creatures great and small,The Good Lord created them all.Love them they make me happy and put a smile on my face!

So my question has been answered. Many here do see animals as created for human consumption their main purpose and perhaps the purpose of all creation for the benefit of man. A less extreme view is that feeding humans is one of their many purposes.

I am curious, how many here have either cardiovascular disease, diabetes, blood pressure issues or are over weight.

I am looking more closely at the DASH and Ornish diets now.
