Why do the Bishops of the U.S. tolerate polticians who support abortion ?Why is there is no censure or excommunication ? Is it due to politics ? . The Bishops are the leaders of our dioceses . They are the representatives of God . Are they not ? I dont understand ? Pax Christi

First of all, is said politican Catholic? You can’t excommunicate someone who already do not belong to the Church.

Excommunication is a big thing and I bet they have thought about it. Excommunication is meant to make a person realize their mistake and bring them back to the Church. If said politician doesn’t seem to be interested in the truth, then excommunication may be fruitless. Its not something you just throw around for the sake of it.

Yes, I understand that it should not be taken lightly. Yet, I maybe wrong. If they are practicing catholics and yet adhere to the public record of voting on abortion. They are not in union with the church. Im getting at this since they have power to change policy and do not should not they be in more contempt.

With the media so anti-Catholic, I think the excommunication of a “Catholic” public official such as Kerry, Sibelius, Pelosi et al would just be turned against the Church, and would become an occasion of ridicule, and not the correction that excommunication is meant to be. It would be spun as the Church attempting to bring US governmental actions under its control, and all the old prejudices would just get enforced.

Yes, I understand what you are saying. Till this day in some parts of the world and here in some states we are still hated. Im not a perfect catholic yet I try to adhere to the churchs teachings. These politicians are blatant they refuse to adhere to her teachings. I know there is more involved than what we know. But why do these people force their agenda down Catholics throats ?
