I am a bit confused here…the Quran in several Sura’s states that Muslims do not believe the Bible is corrupt but a true revelation of God (Sura 2:40-42,126,136,285; 3:3,71,93; 4:47,136; 5:47-51, 69,71-72; 6:91; 10:37,94; 21:7; 29:45,46; 35:31; 46:11)…so why is it that modern day Muslims view the Bible as corrupt?

It (the Quran) also states that NO ONE can change the Word of God **(****Sura 6:34:And certainly apostles before you were rejected, but they were patient on being rejected and persecuted until Our help came to them; and there is none to change the words of Allah, and certainly there has come to you some information about the messengers.)

The Quran also states that a true Muslim is obliged to believe in all the revelations of God **(Sura 4:136:***O you who believe! believe in Allah and His Apostle and the Book which He has revealed to His Apostle and the Book which He revealed before; and whoever disbelieves in Allah and His angels and His apostles and the last day, he indeed strays off into a remote error.
****Sura 29:46:***And do not dispute with the followers of the Book except by what is best, except those of them who act unjustly, and say: We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you, and our God and your God is One, and to Him do we submit )

Besides, there are even manuscripts of biblical scripture that date back from before Mohammed. So they can’t say all scripture has been corrupted only since that time. If they were, Mohammed would have never told people to confirm his revelations by comparing them to their own scriptures.

I think that later on he started to realize what the real Christian teachings were, and that he was relying on a bunch of heretics for his information up until that time. That’s why his supposed devotion to Christian scripture quickly started to be replaced by a more confrontational tone. The Quran isn’t arranged in chronological order, but based on the general order they say the verses were put together it seems like this is what happened.

The question is why and when did Islam start believing that the Bible was corrupt…it was not always so

perhaps your confusion lies in the fact that those verses do not carry the meanings what you think they do.

try looking up the explanations for those verses in the books of Quranic exegesis… one site you can visit that has a pretty good exegesis of the Quran is www.tafsir.com. the site isn’t the easiest in terms of navigating quickly to the exact verse you want the explanation for.

btw, the Quran itself says that the previous scriptures were altered. so that’s the source of the belief muslims have concerning it.

there was already a thread about this that was started some time ago. i posted pretty much all the verses referenced here, and commented on some of them.

read them and see for yourselves what they actually say. then you can check tafsir.com to see what they mean if you still have doubts as to their interpretations.

whose interpretations are you asking about? the interpretations given by the christian missionaries who compiled that list of references, or the muslim scholars who wrote their Quranic exegesises according to the statements of prophet muhammad and his companions?

for me, the answer to your question is a no-brainer.

islam is the religion that prophet muhammad was sent to mankind with. his companions are the believers who accompanied him and learned directly from him. they learned the revelation and the proper interpretation of it from prophet muhammad. thus, whoever wants to interpret the Quran must refer back to their teachings.

these teachings are recorded in the books of narrations and have been compiled by other scholars into books dealing with specific topics… and in this case, Quranic exegesis, ibn katheer’s explanation of the Quran is one of the best exegesises you can get.

If I am not mistaken, the life of your prophet were recorded in hadiths.
Do you think one can understand Quran without hadiths?

This is a question that need to be dealt with by the Muslims. I could offer opinions but I guess they need to answer this satisfactorily first.

Since we are at this, maybe other questions can be thrown in too. “Why did Muhammad tell the Muslims first to get along with Christians, and then he said to kill them?”

Regarding the Quran, Why was the prophet Muhammad permitted to marry 13 women, and the rest of the Muslims are commanded not to marry more than four? The Quran says Muhammad was just a human being. So why did he have extra rights?

Yes, Ibn Kathir also produced a massive work that described the history of the world from the Islamic point of view, starting with creation and ending just before the author’s death in a.h. 774. the work in question, *the Beginning and the End * is a nine-volume set is not available in English.

Although these books do not have the same reverence as the correct books of hadith, they are useful in supplying information about Muhammad.

My question is this, did the prophet give these orders as instructions from God? If so does this mean that they were both of himself since they contradict? I cant see a genuine prophetic reversal from Allah in all honesty.

Because the prophet obviously liked women very much. When your in charge of making the rules it is important to follow them yourself for the sake of effective leadership. Then again he could always just say Allah said it was ok to do so.

Don’t we all?
Of course we do. But the above quote simply evades the entire point that his being with 15 women makes him a total hypocrite by his own standards. Why are Islamic people afraid to admit that he obviously sinned greatly against Gods laws? I mean seriously, what else can it be? I am open to any explanations.

People get very touchy when I say Quranic revelation seems to suit human desire very well, thank you.

One of the ten commandment stated - Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour wife.

We got this coveniently abrogated in the Quran. Not only that, the prophet was even allowed to marry his adopted son’s wife, Zainab, after love at first sight between the prophet and zainab while both met when the latter’s husband was not in. (see my post on this, if you have not)

It’s amazing,

Over a billion people follow the teaching of a man who did not lead by example in the words allegedly given to him by God himself. Every time I turn around the evidence against the validity of Islam is reinforced by both current events of attrocity and studying the blatent hypocrasy of the original founder of Islam.

I mean no disrespect to anyone here who is Islamic seeking unity with God. I find that asparation to be nobel. In all honesty Islamic people need to face the truth that a man has decieved there hearts. Jesus did not just talk the talk he walked the walk. There is no sin in questioning the truth of a prophets validity. If Christ had 15 wives I would question him. Why did muhammed do such things if the Quran says not to as the thread is titled?
