Most YEC’s are fundamentalists but there is no necessary connection.
Here’s on claim that Kent Hovind makes: carbon dating does not imply an old Earth. What’s really strange is that no scientist has actually claimed that carbon dating implies an old Earth. In fact, carbon dating is entirely useless when it comes to dating things which are either not living, or millions of years old (old-Earthers (that is, scientists) date the Earth as billions of years old).
Or how about this claim: under evolution, the more advanced organisms are the one with more chromosomes. Really… as I recall, evolution doesn’t really include a “great chain of being.” As it stands, the most successful sort of organisms on the planet are bacteria.
Please, don’t look to Hovind. Or if you do, make sure you go to a reputable source, such as TalkOrigins, for an evaluation of his claims. They’ve actually got a page devoted to the man.
