Hello All,

This is found in the Breviary as the introduction to the intercessions for Vespers, Monday Week III.

“The Holy Spirit raised the body of Christ to life and made it the source of life. With joy in our hearts, let us call upon the risen Christ, saying:”

I was under the impression, from the Creeds that Christ rose according to His own power “on the third day He rose again from the dead” and “On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures”

Even amidst the Trinitarian relationship I was under the impression that the Son rose as His own person, in a way distinct from the roles of the other persons, thus completing redemption through Himself. Is the teaching that he rose through the power of the Third Person, the Holy Spirit?

Thanks,
Charles

It’s both. In John 2:19 Christ will raise the temple in three days. And in several other bible passages, including 1 Peter 1:21 it shows that God will raise him. This is not a conflict. There is only one God and he is three persons with one nature, one mind, one essence.

The Holy Spirit is the love between Christ and His Father. The power of the Holy Spirit is indistinguishable from the power of Christ or the power of God the Father. The power of any one person of the Trinity is likewise the power of the Trinity.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church has in n. 695:

“Finally, it was the Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead.”

This has footnote 35: “Cf. Rom 1:4; 8:11.”
