What is the official teaching on the rapture according to the Catholic Church?

I know Jesus’ teaching…

Matthew 6:34
“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” 👍

There is one rapture, and it is after the Tribulation, not before.
JL: THE END.

1Thes 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

[2Pt3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which THE HEAVENS SHALL PASS AWAY with a great noise, and THE ELEMENTS SHALL MELT with fervent heat, THE EARTH ALSO AND THE WORKS that are THEREIN SHALL BE BURNED UP. 11 Seeing then that ALL THESE THINGS SHALL BE DISSOLVED, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein THE HEAVENS BEING ON FIRE SHALL BE DISSOLVED, and THE ELEMENTS SHALL MELT WITH FERVENT HEAT? 13 Nevertheless **WE, according to his promise, LOOK FOR NEW HEAVENS AND A NEW EARTH, wherein dwelleth righteousness. See also Is66:22.]

Just as our bodies will be changed into a glorified body so also will the new heaven (universe) and the new earth will be changed into a glorified body.

Rm8:21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that THE WHOLE CREATION GROANETH AND TRAVAILETH IN PAIN TOGETHER UNTIL NOW. 23 AND not only they, but OURSELVES ALSO, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

Eph1:10 That IN THE dispensation of the FULNESS OF TIMES he might GATHER TOGETHER IN ONE ALL THINGS in Christ, BOTH which are IN HEAVEN, AND which are ON EARTH; even in him:

Col1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, VISIBLE AND INVISIBLE, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, AND FOR HIM:

Col1:20 and by Him to reconcile all things TO HIMSELF, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.

Acts3:21 For HE MUST REMAIN IN HEAVEN UNTIL the time for the FINAL RESTORATION of all things, as God promised long ago through his holy prophets.

Rv21:1 And I saw A NEW HEAVEN AND A NEW EARTH: for THE FIRST HEAVEN and THE FIRST EARTH WERE PASSED AWAY; and there was no more sea. 2 And I JOHN SAW THE holy city, NEW JERUSALEM, COMING DOWN FROM GOD OUT OF HEAVEN, prepared AS A BRIDE adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, THE TABERNACLE OF GOD IS WITH MEN, and HE WILL DWELL WITH THEM, and they shall be his people, and GOD HIMSELF SHALL BE WITH THEM, and be their God.] CCC 1042

Rev21:22 And I saw no temple therein: for THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY AND THE LAMB ARE THE TEMPLE OF IT. 23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. 24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.

[Rv2:1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. 2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3 And there shall be no more curse: but **THE THRONE OF GOD AND OF THE LAMB SHALL BE IN IT; and his servants shall serve him: 4 And THEY SHALL SEE HIS FACE; and his name shall be in their foreheads. 5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.] God’s dwelling heaven and earth shall be united as one.

Jer3:17 At that time THEY SHALL CALL JERUSALEM THE THRONE OF THE LORD; and ALL THE NATIONS SHALL BE GATHERED UNTO IT, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.

For a detailed explaination go to:

newadvent.org

This will acces the Catholic Encypodeia

The Theology of a raptue [a third coming of Christ] is not biblically supported. It is yet another invention of MANY Protestant communions; and its origin is but a few hunded years old.

The Bible only supports the First comming [The Incarnation / Christmas] and then the Final Judgment when we will be reunitd with our now glorifed bodies. Amen!

The Official position of the CC conforms to the Bible.

God Bless,
Pat

Correct. The catching up at the end of time, the resurrection and the last judgment are all one event, the Second Coming. By “one rapture” I did not intend any separation between these events.

JL: I hope my post, THE END, was not misunderstood. I agree with you there is one rapture and it comes after the tribulation then THE END, judgment.

I think your post was awesome. 😃

But I caught an important point–if we’re going to call the catching up at the Second Coming a “rapture” then we have to specify that this rapture, unlike the alleged pre-trib rapture, does not result in a separation between humans on earth and in heaven. This is because heaven, the New Jerusalem, will then descend to earth along with the raptured Christians and Our Lord, and everyone will be judged.

This a great thread for anyone not quite sure what to make of the end times. I am, however, continually amazed at how often the media and folks in general put forward a pre-millenial position as settled fact. I am more amazed and concerned at how often I encounter Catholics that also seem to take this interpretation as fact.

JL: I see your point, I’ve just started to study the pre-trib rapture. I just finished Carl Olson’s book Will Catholics Be “Left Behind”?, and have David Currie’s book, yet to read. I didn’t realize how convoluted the pre-trib teachings are. It seems, to me, it takes a professional song and dance man to defend it. I think that’s why we see no rapture Protestants on this line trying.
