Actually, here in Seattle, I have been heartened that the media is doing the opposite of your experience. Instead of lumping all Christianity together in this silliness, they have made sure to only talk about Mr. Camping. Today, they haven’t spoken about him at all.It’s an opportunity for the media to make Christianity look silly as a whole. That’s why it gets so much publicity. It’s called guilt by association.
It’s the same with failings in the church - the Church and her people can help millions of people annually via charities and service, and it will be barely reported, but if a single priest is convicted of child abuse, that will make front page news.
But I do agree with you, it is often guilt by association, especially if the Catholic Church has a problem.
