I stumbled upon this wonderful video showing the truth about Christopher Columbus. He was a very faithful Catholic. He was not some sort of sadistic rapist, as leftists like to portray him. He helped spread Catholicism greatly. šŸ‘

When I was teaching a few years ago, I was a support teacher in a Public School, a 5th grade student burst out of his classroom at the end of a Social Studies class saying very passionately, " I hate Christopher Columbus!" When I asked him why he would say that he told me that Columbus had brought diseases to the new world and killed the natives…
Over the years I have thought about that… Do you think Columbus did that on purpose? Was he evil incarnate? That is what that student evidently thought… wonder who put that in his young mind???

The Taino in Hispaniola who were enslaved might disagree that Columbus was a wonderful guy. He was also quite mercenary, having cut a lucrative deal with Spain for a cut of the spoils of any land he decided to claim.

He was a man of his time. Probably no better or worse than any of the other guys to make it across the pond in the days when that was still a big deal.

Agreed. As long as we don’t portray him as some kind of hero who was out to spread Catholicism.

Probably no better or worse than the Taino that ate their young if there was no other source of food.

like most notable characters in history, his actions brought both real good… and also some great evils.

When it comes to exploration, no one can see all eventualities. First contact never looks good in hind sight.

How would he know? It’s not like germ theory was known about at that point. I don’t hate Columbus, I don’t hate anyone. Honestly, if I want to think about the way Aboriginal people have been treated, most of my anger would probably go to Andrew Jackson. Columbus didn’t know what he was doing, Jackson did.

I looked it up and read an account. It was horrible, if it’s all true. I have no reason to doubt at least until I do further research. Thanks for the heads-up! Also, I’m not sure of the definition of genocide…

(Let’s also remember the Servant of God Queen Isabella for financing the voyage. Had she foreknown the consequence, she may have left instructions for what is and is not permissible…but hindsight and whatnot…)

How wonderful that he was Catholic. That’s another reason to like him.

He did not commit genocide. That’s like saying Coronado and crew committed genocide against pagans slaughtering women and children to a snake god. Just another liberal novus ordo churchgoer…psht…

yes it’s our fine fascist public school system! I’d live in an eight ft single wide and ride a bicycle if it meant keeping my kids out of the PSS. The National Anthem is a racist song too.

Pope Paul III gave instruction on the treatment of Indians:
Code:
                                          Sublimus Dei
On the Enslavement and Evangelization of Indians
                                Pope Paul III - May 29, 1537
…Hence Christ, who is the Truth itself, that has never failed and can never fail, said to the preachers of the faith whom He chose for that office ā€˜Go ye and teach all nations.’ He said all, without exception, for all are capable of receiving the doctrines of the faith…

…the Indians are truly men and that they are not only capable of understanding the Catholic Faith but, according to our information, they desire exceedingly to receive it…
…the said Indians and all other people who may later be discovered by Christians, are by no means to be deprived of their liberty or the possession of their property, even though they be outside the faith of Jesus Christ; and that they may and should, freely and legitimately, enjoy their liberty and the possession of their property; nor should they be in any way enslaved…
…the said Indians and other peoples should be converted to the faith of Jesus Christ by preaching the word of God and by the example of good and holy living.

The Monarchy of Spain would only agree to fund Columbus’s voyage if he promised to evangelize the natives he encountered, to which he agreed.
