The real political issue facing the world is the termination of power and greed as vices and instead build humanitarian values that foster the care of people of all nations. This change is not that difficult, and social psychologists already have the knowledge on how to implement value change. Again, this is the real challenge that faces world governments. (For example, I truly believe that there is enough food to feed everyone, and that we must implement the means to feed everyone.)

Hatred is the other vice that the world must overcome, but again, psychologist have the know how of altering hatred and fostering LOVE.

Excellent points, Robert. I agree with much of what you said. The problem is, those who really run things like us the way we are; (comparatively) poor, commodified, wanting in nothing important but material goods, and enslaved in a prison that many of us don’t even realize (or specifically have chosen to ignore) we’re in.

My atheism aside, why do you think the religious right is so against any iteration of socialism? If people’s basic needs are met and they concentrate on what’s truly important (family, true happiness, worthwhile pursuits, etc), then the stranglehold that the banking, manufacturing, and military-industrial complex has on us all.

We Americans specifically have more crud than we’d ever need for 50 lifetimes. Yet we just keep consuming more. Something’s old? Replace it. Outdated? Replace it. No longer “in?” Replace it.

I’m not a granola-crunching, tree-hugging hippie, but I firmly believe that nearly everyone on this planet could get by on subsistence living. Technology is great, but only if it furthers the human race. We could all use a crash course in reality and have to live like they did in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

You are right, of course.

But getting to what you say is blocked by** Right Wingers who are infected with the vice of GREED in a toxic way**, and is blocked by Left Wingers who are infected with the vice of Sexual LUST in a toxic way.

Not all Right Wingers and not all Left Wingers are thusly infected. But this is nevertheless what is at the core of their respective movements, even if many of their followers do not perceive this.

There seems no way forward. Both rightly point out each other sins, while fiercely denying their own sins.

Yet, with the Christ, all things are possible. So we should in now way despair.

But in politics (Right or Left) we should not put our faith, but in evangelization of the saving, transforming Gospel of Christ.

How would social psychologists implement world value change…? Is this like mass brainwashing or something?

Psychologists will not solve the worlds problems. Until all repent and turn to Christ the world will be consumed with fire sword and war. The world is part of a kingdom–the king of the universe–the Christ, and until people realize this fact things will spiral downwards into an abyss. All scripture tells us that this is the work of God: Deny the Lord and you are met with destruction. That is the the theme of the entire gospel. The Jews rejected God and they were destroyed. The gentiles rejected God and they were destroyed. Nations and Kingdoms fall throughout the pages of the Testaments; and that continues to this day. Many believe that Jesus came to cast peace upon the world but what they don’t realize is that he came to spread conflicts through fire sword and war. Deny God and you fall.

One small way a social psychologist can “encourage” humanitarian values is by making sure that rewards are given for performance that is geared toward humanitarian values. Teaching these values to children in schools and through the media is another example.

Which is why I’m glad that I’m neither. Both sides are crooks. The only people politicians know are those they owe, and those that owe them.

I’m assuming you’re talking about implementing this idea in places like Syria, Somalia, Mostly all of South America, or anywhere a dictator or Sharia Law enforcer lurks.

…Because America and the West are leading the world in feeding the poor, sending out billions of dollars, and trying fiercely to rid the nations of these dictators and gangster style thugs -who claim to be “leaders”.

If there was any one who could persuede these so called “leaders” into embracing humanitarian values, that would be a miracle… I just don’t see it happening without a fight.

I don’t really know anybody who spends like that anymore these days. maybe 20 years ago back in the 80’s.

I agree, it’s good for the soul to get away from it all… My dream life would definantly include plenty of acreage, where I could raise pigs, cows, and grow a huge garden. Throw in a windmill and a river and I’d be in paradise. 🙂

I don’t think that either of those things are political issues.

These are just age old problems stemming from sin: if there’s enough food to feed everyone, the problem is selfishness and materialism. And then anger and hatred are also sins.

I don’t see what’s political about either. I think the biggest political problem facing the world… is that democracy can only work if citizens are upstanding and moral. [Insert Quote of the Founding Fathers here]

Almost every country claims to be a democracy these days. With the exceptions of some Communist countries (like 5), and maybe 2 dozen dictatorships… that’s still like 150 democracies.

The political problem is: if the people are worldly and secular… why should they have power? Those people’s power is going to hurt the Church.

There… a huge problem facing the world, summed up in a small nutshell. I hope no one over looks it… This definitely affects however many democracies there are. At least 140-150 I think.

The world belongs to the devil. Those who do not accept Christ as Savior and follow His teachings are destined for misery. Plain and simple. THis is not a new development. Technology has added to our misery in many ways. A simple way of life and following Christ, the light of the world, will lead us all to our permanent home in heaven. Meanwhile, each of us has the priveldge of serving God on earth for a relatively small amount of time. We each have to make choices that lead us closer to Christ and hopefully, take along as many others as we can. It’s really just that simple. Everything else that we do here is incidental and of no true value. Look to our examples such as Padre Pio, Mother Theresa, Pope John Paul ll, Pope B enedict and you can clearly see how human beings can live out their faith and prepare for eternity.

People can certainly be influenced and educated but they cannot be compelled to love others. That is where the secular society breaks down…

I feel certain that LOVE can be taught though proper child development. Developmental Psychologists are well aware of this. The problem arises when the parents themselves adhere to problem values and attitudes. But again, this problem is not insurmountable to remedy through education using sources external from the parents, such as through school education and in the social media.

I think we can at least agree that negative values such as power, greed and hatred are the root of much of the evil we see in the world today. It must be eliminated!

Power, greed, and hatred are natural qualities of our mortality. It’s called concupisence. To physically install values on populations is typically accomplished through fear tactics. Rewards stand no chance against fear. The best way is to oust tyranny and lead by example

Robert, you seem to be discounting free will!

The world belongs to God not the devil!

Those who don’t accept Christ through no fault of their own are not destined for hell.

As you point out, our destiny depends on our choices👍

Why is it that all developed countries complain about power and greed?

The biggest issue facing this world is the unequal distribution of resources with an overwhelming human population. This planet is just as much mine as it is yours, or hers, or everyone else. Afterall, if this place was created for us, we should all get equal share in it, shouldn’t we?

But your world of power and greed is slowly coming to an end with the internet. I mean just look at how the internet influenced the SOPA/PIPA bills.
