I like saying “My Lord and my God” because that was Thomas’ response upon seeing Jesus (John 20:24-29)

“My God and my King” is from the Psalms (145, 44, and others, I’m sure)

Unscripted prayer is usually always best, but it is nice to have something prepared for times when your mouth can’t quite speak the words of your heart.
I don’t think it matters whether it’s a memorized prayer or a spontaneous prayer, it matters that you mean it.

I always say, silently, “My Lord and My God” at the elevation, but I always add “have mercy on me, a sinner”, as I touch my hand to my chest.

Does anybody else do this last part?

During the consecration of the Precious Blood, after I pray “My Lord and my God,” I ask the Lord to cover my PV (who is also my best friend) with His most Precious Blood, to shield him from all dangers and to bless and protect Pope Benedict XVI. Even though my PV (parochial vicar) are on the outs right now, having said some rather hurtful things to each other over the past week, there is not a day that goes by that I don’t pray for him.
