I’m trying to understand the Real Presence, and I’m having a hard time really, honestly internalizing it and understanding its significance. Oddly, I seem to be more aware of it when I’m in a state of mortal sin. When I’m not, though, I know I take it for granted and I really don’t want to do that anymore. On the intellectual level, I kind of “get” it, but in my heart, I know I don’t. So I’m wondering, does anyone have any meditations or general thoughts to share that might help me see it differently and understand it more deeply?

Thanks and God bless,

One of the ways I look at it is to see the appearance of bread as a symbol, but not just any symbol mind you.

Take the size of the Host. Its about the size of the half dollar. Now think of Satan, and vast, horrifying lakes of molten magma. Everything evil in this world.

Yet the Church teaches us that this little piece of bread is utterly mightier than all that evil, because God is omnipotent. God could vanquish Satan by simply no allowing him to exist anymore.

Now realize that this little piece of bread is not actually a piece of bread, but instead The Body of Christ. Of course, the Body of Christ is mightier than all evil in this world, and more good than all that is good in this world!:extrahappy:

As to why it still looks, tastes, and is chemically identical to a piece of bread, remember, this is a sign of the omnipotent nature of Christ our Lord!

I know this is kind of simplistic, but have you tried going to Adoration and praying about it?

God bless

I read the story of the exorcism of Nicola Aubrey not too long ago and it really made me appreciate the power of the Blessed Sacrament so much more. It may be hard to find online if you search for Nicola Aubrey, but this online archive has the whole book available:

Greetings Lefty22,

Are you praying for the grace to understand the Real Presence with your heart as well as your mind?

Think about when you want to understand something, you immerse yourself in it by reading about something. If you want to understand someone, you place yourself in their presence to get to know them better.

It is the same with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Spend more time with Him in Adoration. Just be still and be mindful of His Presence. He knows you are there. We are not are feelings. Our feelings do not dictate the reality of something. Jesus is really present in the Blesseed Sacrament despite whether we feel Him or not. This must be accepted by Faith, pray for the light of Faith in this regard.

God Bless.
