The reality of Christmas and the JW’s

DW and I spent Christmas day with a family that is formerly JW’s. The host is a family man with 4 children, 2 older teenagers and 2 younger girls both under the age of 6. He, like me, was raised as a JW. And just like me when he decided to leave his parents wrote him off. His older children were given the choice to do as they wished with regards to the JW’s. They both stayed for about a year along with their mother and they were supported in their decision by the father. They have all now left the organization for a year or almost 2 in some cases. Another young man about age 20 joined us for dinner, he too has recently left the JW’s and his father is planning on kicking him out of the house because of it.

Near the end of dinner the two older boys began sharing their belief system and both expressed a deep and profound agnostic sentiment that was also affirmed by the father.

This is the spiritual damage done to people that, for whatever reason, decide to leave the JW’s. God is not relational in JW ideology and relationships are disposable. There is no grace, no forgiveness. There is no Divine face of Christ to behold or adore. The sadness expressed and felt after dinner was physically palpable.

DW and I spoke about those 10 minutes of the whole day on our long car ride back home. She was pretty choked up and felt desperate empathy for the people expressing their lost souls.

It’s not our job to prove that God is, I told her. That’s the Holy Spirit’s job. Our job is to show the love of God to everyone even if they doubt His existence. No one ever softened a heart to be ready for the seeds of God’s kingdom by hitting them with a hammer.

Oh no, how sad–and how sensitive of you to be able to deeply feel their pain and disillusionment. Just reading your post made my heart break.

I always include, in my Rosary, those who are deceived by false gods and false religions–may Jesus help these and others who are in most need of His Mercy.

That is terrible, I went through something similar for almost a year because of watchtower.

I am still recovering, but I wish there was something I could do.

While I was at bethel, one of the young bethelites had a similar crises…he questioned the very existence of God.

The watchtower organization seems to have that effect on people.
