I just attended a “Red Mass” in San Diego. A “Red Mass” is a tradition that I was told dates back to the 1300s. It is a mass celebrated at the beginning of the year of “court” and is given to ask God’s blessing upon all who work in the legal profession. In the United States, it traditionally takes place in October, just prior to the beginning of the US Supreme Court’s legal year. The mass was very beautiful, and presided over by the bishop of the San Diego Diocese, Bishop Robert Brom. Four other priests attended. Anyone else out there attend a Red Mass in your community? Please share…
