William F. Buckley — ‘Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views.’

Having lived through the Women’s Liberation Movement of the 1970s, it’s clear that it is based on classic Marxist class warfare: Women - the eternal victims class, and Men - the eternal enemies class. Overthrow the Patriarchy has changed to White Male Privilege. Different era, just repackaged and relabeled for today.

The main victims of radical Feminism was/is women, followed by men. It was/is meant to destroy the family.

That’s in the documentary too! Erin Pizzey is a key contributor who was the first woman to open up a woman’s shelter for domestic violence. But she quickly realized that in the 1970s they went from “capitalism” is the enemy to “patriarchy” is the enemy. She actually had a men’s shelter and a women’s shelter running because she recognized that often times with domestic violence it’s both men and women beating up each other. This didn’t fit with the feminist narrative and she was kicked out of the organization she founded.

She’s British and she said at one point “I can’t even go anywhere near the shelter I started now. I built the bloody building but they won’t work with me.” It’s stuff like this that this documentary exposes.

Give the sneak peek and the trailer a watch in my OP. There’s no profanity in those. But if you like it and buy the full length version. Be warned there is some profanity.

Not to my knowledge (unfortunately). “Red Pill” is a basic term to refer to something that’s counter-cultural. It comes from the movie the Matrix. It’s basically a way of saying “You never thought of it this way before, but once you see this it can’t be unseen” sort of thing.

Why does it cost money to stream in Australia? Is it just that you’re mobile and have to wait to get back home?
Thanks for the definition. Australian Internet is a bit of a money making joke. Until recently data has been charged as both upload and download per byte. For wifi it still is.
I use wireless.- the wifi network. Many here have also dumped landline phones in preference for mobile phones.

On women’s lib , feminist movements, there is quite an undercurrent amongst early age adult women today, here, that the pill set women straight back behind the 8 ball , and did not benefit them at all. Being used by men for a great excuse for pre marital sex.

Counter feminist culture would say the pill took away choice. That’s quite a counter culture idea , in a very secular society.

Yeah, good points, but try not to get that confused with this documentary. This documentary focuses on how we talk all day long about women’s issues but never about men’s issues. And given the fact that men are far more likely to commit suicide and are dropping out of education at alarming rates, it’s pointing out that we need to start making it a priority.

So the “pill” reference is just a cultural reference it doesn’t refer to an actual pill.

And sorry about what you’re dealing with in Australia.

Bump

Has anyone actually watched the trailer / sneak peek at this point? I’d love to hear what you think!

Australia , I must say, is big on men’s issues.

The two big ones here are Prostate Cancer, and depression - suicide, ATM. The what about men too type campaigns are pushed in the media.

As an American, that’s great to hear they’re being heard in Australia. But it’s not being heard here in America. Men are sentenced to more than 60% of jail-time for women for the same crime, and we’re falling behind in education too.

This issue is serious. This isn’t misogyny. This is common sense.

Bump again. I’d like to hear from people who’ve actually watched either the trailer, sneak peek, or the documentary. Has anyone actually watched them?

We might be more inclined if you didn’t keep bumping a thread that’s already on the front page. It’s kind of annoying to get flagged every time for a post that doesn’t say anything.

I’m sorry I mean no disrespect! I’m just trying to hear an honest reaction from what we Catholics think about this documentary. So far no one’s actually reacted to it in this thread. I’m honestly curious about the Catholic opinion as I feel (personally) this documentary confirms Catholic morality. Of course, that’s just my personal opinion, but given that there’s free sneak peeks of it, why not watch it and everyone decide for themselves?

Characterizing feminists as man hating is no different than characterizing Catholics as gay hating.

I am proud to be a feminist and I do not hate men. I love many men, my husband in particular.

That’s the beauty of this documentary, “I’m a feminist, I’m a Men’s Right’s Activist. The two are not at odds”

Your father was playing the game on easy mode. He still had the remnants of the patriarchy to cover his back, and “toxic masculinity” was nonexistent.

“Toxic masculinity” means a form of masculinity that is toxic. It’s not the same as saying “masculinity is toxic.”

I just googled this for you, and I’ll pull out some quotes:

geekfeminism.wikia.com/wiki/Toxic_masculinity

“Toxic masculinity is one of the ways in which Patriarchy is harmful to men. It refers to the socially-constructed attitudes that describe the masculine gender role as violent, unemotional, sexually aggressive, and so forth.”

They give some examples:

“The pervasive idea of male-female interactions as competition, not cooperation.”

Boy, doesn’t that ring some bells.

“The expectation that Real Men are strong, and that showing emotion is incompatible with being strong. Anger is either framed as the exception to the rule, or as not an emotion.”

“The myth that men are not interested in parenting, and are inherently unsuited to be single parents.
discourages men from becoming involved in the lives of their children.
encourages household inequality, which hurts all involved.
assumes that in case of divorce, children will go with their mothers, instead of examining each situation individually.”

Holy guacamole! Did I just see a feminist endorse the idea of male parenting and male custody! I did!

Hey everyone,

Just a general announcement:

This entire thread so far has been everyone noting their own personal opinions on feminism. Your opinions are certainly welcome, but look at the title of this thread.

Reactions to the trailer? Absent. Reactions to the sneak peek? Absent. Reactions to the actual documentary? Absent.

Please. Just watch the documentary. It raises some good awareness about the negative effects feminism has on boys.

Please comment after you’ve watched those videos to share your reactions.

Peace and God Bless!

I watched both videos. I heard about this documentary before and watched some online reviews. I don’t have money, so I’m waiting for it to be available free someplace. But, it looks promising and I agree that male victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and suicide don’t get nearly enough attention that they deserve. I can’t wait to see it.

Thank you for your response. This is the first comment in this thread that actually reacted to the videos I posted. I welcome commentary on all sides, let’s talk about it!

Yes, men who are victims of domestic violence are being shamed into silence. This is a documentary that exposes that men are victims too and it’s extremely hard to convince people that it’s a legitimate issue. This documentary helps to illustrate that.

Also redbetta: I’m sorry you can’t afford the documentary,I’m sorry for that!

Who by?

In my online experience, Red Pill guys are the foremost proponents of the idea that a guy has to be an alpha gorilla/Clint Eastwood/Charles Bronson/John Wayne/Chuck Norris/Bruce Lee clone, rough and tough, 100% invulnerable, never show any weakness, never have any emotions, never need anybody 24/7.

They literally have no room for any men who are unable to fit that model, which of course is completely unrealistic as a way of life and also (needless to say) doesn’t really make sense in a husband and father.

And then they wonder about those suicide rates…

The documentary is not about those kinds of Red Pillers. Also, I don’t think that men are shamed so much as people do not believe men if they are abused by their wives. The idea sounds ludicrous to a lot of people that a woman can abuse a man. But, many don’t realise that, if a man tries to defend himself, the woman can turn it against him and say he was the one hitting her.

Please understand the distinction. The documentary has NOTHING to do with the misogynistic online community which is at odds with Catholic teaching.

But in this case, the “red pill” is just a title. The woman who shot it is a feminist. She was pro-choice prior to this documentary, but became pro-life. Think about that. She literally changed her views simply by shooting a year’s worth of film.

Just watch the trailer!

And watch the extended previews!

It’s really a good documentary! Give it a chance!
