Last time, I asked your opinion about the book “Abandonment to Divine Providence” - Truly, this book is very meaningful and the author has helped me quite a lot on my faith journey especially when I am so worried. Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut on this book.

I’ve been reading different books since and they are mostly about Our Blessed Mother Mary. I am purchasing the book “The Reed of God”. Have you read the book? Do you like it?

Great book! I re-read parts of it, and think of some of the things she wrote as I go up to recieve communion - to be open to recieving Jesus, in the model of Mary, in order to bring Jesus into the world. Great book.

My advice:​

Don’t delay;
Buy it today !

It’s outstanding 🙂 - it makes the Mother of God accessible, & not the horribly remote figure all too common in so much Catholic writing 😦 After all, how many of us are Immaculate, sinless, etc. ?

This book, rather than emphasizing all those things she has that make her unapproachably distant (& terrifying), uses the opposite approach: hence the title. 🙂 🙂 🙂

“The Reed of God” is the first book I read by Caryll Houselander, after which I read anything else by her that I could lay my hands on. Another excellent book by her is “Guilt,” and I’d also recommend Maisie Ward’s biography, entitled simply “Caryll Houselander.”

Houselander is one author that today’s Catholics ought to become more familiar with. She has a lot to teach us, both on how to become better Catholics and more fulfilled human beings. I hope there is a revival of interest in her writings in our day.

I like what the author wrote, but so far I could understand this part:

…except I am yearning to know more about Jesus Christ, His Love, and His Passion. I’ve been praying the 15 prayers of Saint Bridget about Jesus’ Passion, but I hardly understand much of His Pain and Love. I hope that someday, by the help of Our Blessed Virgin, I will be given graces to have better self-knowledge, then I would come to know His Love and His Passion more.

I once asked the Lord to let me love as He loved me. The love I showed to a person was rejected in a way and I knew instantly that was how He felt. He teaches in life’s lessons. Just learn to recognize the lesson’s by keeping Him always on your mind. Tim

Thanks for the very good advice, Tim. I have somehow realized the more I think of Him throughout my day, the better chance I stay away from troubles.
 
I am currently the Reed of God - I like the book; however, there are some parts that are difficult to understand. It is normally a lot easier for me to read book where author uses simple words (no poetic style) and straight to the point.
