What country do you think would go to war if the Pope were killed (God forbid)? And who would they go to war against?
I personally doubt that there would be a significant mechanized conflict. However, I do think that you would have a great amount of unrest out there between Musims and Christians. Probably some eruptions of violence. However, there would not be a large scale war. You can’t get two countries to agree on anything in this day and age…I doubt that there would be a world revolt.

this is off topic but expect it since you posted in the wrong place.

the religion of peace would be won by buddism. With soo few violent actions. and a philosophy that would rather see themselfs die than commit suffering unto others it is indeed the Religion of peace.
The thing is that Muslims call Islam the religion of peace. That is why we often refer to it as that when they are committing violent acts.

Actually, Buddhist monks have been known to throw themselves violently into a fire. In Vietnam they often did so to protest the spread of what the Media and liberal political leaders all tell us is the most wicked, oppressive and violent of all faiths, the Roman Catholic faith.

I think that among the most peace loving religions on earth are found the Bahai, and
the Jehovah’s Witnesses. The Bahai believe in a brotherhood of all humankind and consider all the world’s major religious systems to have validity. They also advocate
a blending of the races so that humans become one. The Jehovah’s Witnesses refuse to salute any flag and serve under any military system. They would rather die than harm even their most staunchest enemies.

But then again wasn’t it Jesus Himself who said, “I have not come to bring peace but a sword.”

It depends on how one defines “peace.” If “peace” is the absence of conflict, then neither Islam, or any other major world religion qualifies as the religion of peace. But if “peace” is defined in terms of a sense of divine protection and guidance in this life
then many world religions, including Islam, can lay claim to the monniker.

Actually the JW’s are not pacifists. They would fight if their organization told them too. In fact they look forward to all of us Catholics being destroyed in the new world to come. Bahai’s have had their moments in various internal struggles. Sad to say but original sin effects them too.

I would have to say that you could be right about the JW’s but- it would be “left to personal concience” as many matters are in their faith. I dont know enough about Bahai’s to comment on them. I personally know a few Jw’s that would not fight even if the organization ordered it - they would go apostate first.

If ANYONE gets Religion of Peace votes, I would say the Amish and the Quakers are the top two.

The Holy Father, like his predecessor is a man of great wisdom and courage. Human wisdom would wish that he shouldn’t proceed to Turkey after all the hooha. And yet he went. This show that he is clear and convicted of the need for peace and reconciliation with other religions. He is steadfast in pursuing it, and for that, all Catholics can hold our heads high. Wish there are more Christian leaders who could make similar move.

Notice that he did not apologize for his belief but apologized only for the unfortunate reaction it caused. Muslims have no gain by killing him, and they know it. They have no choice but to put up brave faces by meeting him.

Isn’t this true about Jesus? He who has no army but conquers the whole world?

I just thought I would mention a few things about the Baha’is since I am one and the question came up a few times…

If Baha’is are drafted they are to seek a noncombatant status and one of the principles of Baha’u’llah was that it is better to be killed than to kill… but we are also obedient to duly constituted authority and if ordered will obey.

Also Baha’is are not permitted to be politically partisan.

Our main interest is in encouraging peace through a world parliament which was advocated by Baha’u’llah in HIs letters to kings and rulers around the 1870’s. He also urged reduction in armaments and collective security to secure peace.

He also abrogated “Jihad” which means Baha’is are not allowed to defend their faith by organized military resistence…

Historically there were Babis…followers of the Bab who used force to defend themselves collectively but that was before Baha’u’llah proclaimed His mission in 1863 in Bagdad on the way to Istanbul.
