see St. Nicholas of Flue

His austerity was extreme. Even in the winter he didn’t wear either a cap or shoes. For the rest of his life he lived entirely without food, except for the Holy Eucharist. Because he became well-known for his piety and wisdom, many visited him, including civic leaders. In fact, dignitaries from all over Europe came to this humble man for counsel.

All who are married, at one point or another, understand Nicholas’ desire to live a life of solitude. Oh, and humility.

Almost forgot there… 😳

Thanks for the information. It’s good to know more about saints.

–However, how many of these people were officially canonized? In the early Church people were considered saints by acclimation. But perhaps that is a bit of a quibble.

Your list is a bit bewildering, since it includes Zwingli, a Protestant founder of the Reformation.
