From Messa in Latino:
(Translated with Google)

*This answers the second question of Mgr. Fellay: “What we now forecast to Rome?”. The Pope is about to propose to Msgr.Fellay the establishment of a Ordinaries to regularize the situation of the SSPX and its community allies, leaving the full (and necessary, given certain bishops in circulation) be independent of diocesan bishops. Some members of the Ecclesia Dei communities were able to clarify that this proposal will be made canonical in the present month of June with Msgr.Fellay.

Guido Pozzo, secretary of Ecclesia Dei

If Messa in Latino is to be trusted, an Ordinariate structure is set to be offered to Bishop Fellay this June. This would, in my opinion, be a beautiful thing for the Church. The stage is set, with Summorum Pontificum, followed by the lifting of the excommunications, the Anglican Ordinariates, and now Universae Ecclesiae. There has been no time since the promulgation of Pope Paul’s Mass that the Traditional Mass was so well accepted, and Pope Benedict is easily to most favourable pope towards tradition that we’ve had since the Second Vatican Council.
The SSPX would be a powerful voice for Tradition from within Rome. They are strong as it is, and I believe that they had some amount of influence on the publishing of Summorum Pontificum, the establishment of Ecclesia Dei, etc., but they will be still more powerful from a position of completely normalized canonical status. When their status is regularized, it will be far harder to ignore them, as so many Catholics are inclined to do.
There is a certain fear of the SSPX that I’ve seen, and it’s rather unwarranted. I think the problem has been exaggerated by many people, and probably some in the episcopate included. I believe that most in the SSPX have good will towards the Pope, and most do seek a position of complete unity. Most, probably all, have only the best interests of the Church and the faithful in mind. Some are rather more antagonistic than others, particularly Bishop Williamson, but from others like Bishop Fellay I’ve read nothing but well balanced opinions, reasonable points, and zeal for the faith.
We should all pray that these rumours are true. If their canonical status is regularized, I will be at an SSPX priory for Mass at the very next available Sunday.

I pray that we will be seeing this again this month.

I wish the best for the union, but the document does not mention any other conditions or lack of it.

In 05-05-1988 both the Cardinal Ratziner and Archbishop Lefebvre signed a document with similar content

Let us all say a special rosary of glorious intent, in thanksgiving and hope for this possible aversion of schism within the Church. We need to be united now, more than ever, against the growing darkness of atheism, agnosticism, and paganism. May our holy religion proceed with peace and joy…

Blogs are sometimes reliable, and at other times rumor mills. I would rather remain patient and wait for some word from the Holy See.

I just hope one’s regular EF doesn’t experience a decline in attendance, which would be the reason I will choose not to attend. But if it’s the only available EF for you, then by all means, go for it.

Sometimes. 🙂 The rumours got Universae Ecclesiae right.

Once they’re normalized they will be just another regular EF. I have an FSSP Mass also in my city, but it is farther away, and the SSPX’s altar is quite lovely. 🙂 I really like the FSSP priest though, so I’d probably stick around for him.

How do you figure? We all knew that an instruction was coming; there was no news there. Summorum Pontificum had said that such an instruction would be issued. In typical Roman fashion, “forthcoming” turned out to mean nearly four years, but that was no surprise. And the rumors that had circulated immediately prior to UE were exactly wrong–they were forecasting a more restrictive document–the exact opposite of what happened. Because of these rumors, various traditional groups were circulating online petitions to ask that no more restrictions or unfavorable conditions be imposed.

I know- I was right in the midst of it. However, we knew about UE through the rumour mill about a week in advance, and these new rumours place the potential of an SSPX ordinariate at more or less the same timeline. Apparently from the mouth of Guido Pozzo, who I assume would know what he’s talking about.
Of course, Google Translate may have let me down, or Messa in Latino.

AMEM to that. Hope will come true soon. We will see in increase in attendance and the identity of Catholics shall return. God hears the prayer of the faithfull.

I go to an SSPX Chapel for Mass and the Sacraments and I do hope that the dispute will be resolved soon. However, to be realistic I do not expect anything too drastic to come from these talks. In my opinion, these particular talks will be concluded without many results. Perhaps the Vatican will offer to clarify certain sections of Vatican II documents or the liturgy etc and continue to develop its understanding of Vatican II as per the hermenutics of continuity. Nevertheless, since it is doctrinal issues being discussed and I know very well the positions of both sides and how long they have maintained them, I do not expect the situation to be much different. With issues like religious liberty, ecumenism, collegiality etc I cannot honestly see a reversal of policy/thinking on either side. I think what will happen is that some things will be clarified and it will pave the way to new talks in the future. This would be a good result at least.

In the process, I am hoping that Rome will address, point blank, the chief concerns of SSPX, and come to honest, open grips with the lamentable condition of the Western Church.

For too long, openly dissident and ultimately destructive bishops “still in communion with Rome” have been tolerated. Why? It’s time to stop dispensing the “medicine of mercy” to such heretics and administer the “charitable anathema” instead.

What’s good for the goose (SSPX) is also good for the gander (the defecting bishops and priests presently hiding themselves within the structures of the Church).

While not exonerating SSPX for their schism, I think they have become the scapegoat for the more widespread (and perhaps more heinous) rebellion at large in much of Western Europe and North America.

If it be God’s will, then it will happen. But in His time, not ours.

I am praying for this gift.

The keys of the Kingdom of heave are given to the hierarchy, and everyone have accept it with humility.

I very much would like to see the breach between the SSPX and Rome healed. But, there are still some huge issues.

I swear sometimes there are two SSPXs:
  1. There is the SSPX that accepts the Novus Ordo and Vatican II, but is just critical of some of the way things were implemented. This SSPX bends over backward to explain why its not schismatic and explains the differences between themselves and Rome as just one big misunderstanding. It always stresses it is not a church of its own, but only a part of the larger Catholic Church.
  2. There is the SSPX that urges the laity to skip mass rather than attend the Novus Ordo and only says critical things about Vatican II. This SSPX gets awfully close to questioning whether the Pope is a valid Pope and seemingly suggests that itself is the true church.

I personally have seen the same thing too, although we must admit to being on the outside looking in. I see it from my perspective as the Fellay camp and the Williamson camp, and I find myself wondering if we might see Bishop Williamson and those closer to him split with Fellay, with Fellay going to Rome, and Williamson potentially becoming sedevacantist.
Of course that’s sheer speculation, and I don’t know much about Bishop Williamson as a person.

I wouldn’t be surprised if many members of the SSPX broke away if the SSPX formally accepted an offer as described in the OP. If the OP is true, we will really see the true colors of rank and file of the SSPX. Hopefully, most of them truly do want to be united with Rome.

It is my own belief that Archbishop Lefebvre was a good man, and I believe the same about Fellay. Incidentally, they happen to be the two that I know more than a tiny bit about.
I think history will look more kindly on Archbishop Lefebvre than it does now.
