The reverse of Nietzsche: Why God may return to a prominent place in society

This is my blog post explaining why I think Man may return to God in order to obtain moral truths.

We’ll return to God once more people understand that there’s a dim future if too many adults remain as immature childish feelgooders who lust for entertainment of the Self, unwilling to sacrifice all for the next generation. There is no romanticism in it.

Another opportunity exists if the logical and scientific people decide that the cosmos either had a beginning, or had no beginning. If it had a beginning, then it had to be caused by a supernatural since absolute nothing cannot scientifically naturally evolve into the first something. On the other hand, if there was never a God to create the cosmos, then the only other alternative is that the cosmos has always existed in some form or another, with no beginning. No beginning means, by definition, no cause for the cosmos (and our) existence. What logical and scientific person wants to believe that? Either way, God satisfies the desire for a logical and scientific explanation where none else can be found.

Perhaps I’m not fully comprehending this post, but it seems like your argument is that a return by our society to God for morality would be logical (which is obvious) but not necessarily probable.

Not only logical, but indeed there is a fairly good chance of it happening.

My problem with Foucault, and indeed most contemporary philosophers, is that while he ceded that there is a chance that we can return to a previous basis of knowledge of moral truths, none of them ever seriously consider the idea that going back to basing moral truths would mean we return to God, due to their bias towards atheism. Too many of these honestly brilliant people just accepted that Nietzsche’s hypothesis that God would stop being our fountain of morality was inevitable, without considering that Nietzsche, being an anti-theist, would be biased towards such an outcome so as to validate his beliefs. But even he realized the great strain the loss of a faith in God would have on society. Kautz is one of the only philosophers that even accepts that we have a chance of returning to God. I find it likely that we return to God, due to man’s need to have a moral originator that is not limited.

It’s easier and more desirable to subscribe to Love of Self instead of Christ’s message of Love of Others. Our society of individualism and hedonism lends itself to Love of Self, which is a shallower existence which is less tolerant of marriage and responsible parenthood. The secular culture is all too happy to lure more people into this trap. It depopulates and creates dependents on the state. Many individuals can’t see outside themselves to see what they are missing, especially with a media that tells them how enlightened they are. It causes them to stop looking. If enough people never make the transition, then the puppetmasters will continue to rule, instead of God. And people will continue to yearn.

I argue, from this, that in order to return society to focusing on God, what we must do is change the culture from within, by which I mean, continue to teach our children the Christian values of self-sacrifice, generosity, and love, but also encourage others to do the same for their children, but not necessarily mention God in those cases, lest we drive people off who are too blinded by their own pride. We must be subtle, slowly push them towards Christ without a big shove, just gently. Change the secular culture from one of individualistic narcissism to one of virtue, then we can reintroduce God.

That is what I feel will happen. I see a potential in my generation for the reintroduction of the Good. Many are starting to get into the viewpoints of the Greatest Generation: Focus on hard work, family, being wise, and such. In other words, they are reversing the trend of the 60s.

We must be subtle, slowly push them towards Christ without a big shove, just gently. Change the secular culture from one of individualistic narcissism to one of virtue, then we can reintroduce God.

Perhaps the most ironic part is that there is only one person we need to convert from Love of Self to Love of Others, and that is our self. If each of us does this to become responsible spouses and parents, then collectively, we heal the culture to the point that only the disabled need help. This is how Catholic libertarianism can work, in a clean society where people are free to elevate their lives.
