Mom is making excuses for Rick so that she can rationalize
letting Nana babysit Sweetpea.
It may be convenient for her to let Nana babysit her daughter, but
look at the situation in which she is leaving the child !
Mom’s number one concern should be protecting her 5 yr. old,
even if it means giving up a free babysitter!
Nana sounds almost as unstable as her son.
The Dad is a destructive force in Sweetpea’s life and the child knows it.
They ALL know it, but don’t want to admit it, for various reasons.
It is scarring the child to know that her father is messed up and yet all
the adults in her life are denying this to her. In effect, they are “gaslighting”
the child.
Even if he isn’t molesting her, she is being damaged by the whole situation.
Happy children don’t hide in closets and have to be dragged screaming to the
car to go visit their fathers.
Judging from all you’ve said, I don’t see anyone in that situation who is going
to step up and protect the child. Nana, the Mom, and the Dad all seem part of
the problem. They are all manipulators.
It’s up to you to protect that child. It’s best to stop thinking that you
can talk them into doing the right thing for Sweetpea.
That isn’t going to happen. IMO.
I would talk to a child advocate about your concerns for Sweetpea.
You may not have any legal standing, but the courts do. There is probably
a social worker who is attached to the family court. Find out who that is
and talk to her/him.
The family isn’t going to like it if you talk to child protection, so brace yourself,
but I don’t see that you have any choice. Be strong!

Thank you. And thank you for caring enough to think on this. May you be blessed.
