One of my biggest fears is the rise of ‘black metal’ bands in the recent times. With the rise of internet usage, such bands have managed to establish a strong following through groups and networking online. I used to listen to a lot of heavy metal, not black metal though, but since it’s in the same kind of pool I do know a fair bit about it.
It’s anti-Christian and quite a few followers are intent on disrupting peace especially in the Christian circles. Favourite activities include burning churches, profaning religious icons, crucifixes etc. What worries me is not directly this though, I mean Christianity has seen it’s fair, (large rather) share of such things over the years.
Heavy metal by it’s very nature focuses on negative feelings and black metal takes depression and despair to an extreme, it attracts youths mainly that have been social outcasts, portrays an ‘ultimate way’ to express themselves, a lot of youth have been going into this. Other black metal musicians such as ‘per yngve’ have committed suicide, he was definitely a tortured soul, he used to cut himself continuously, on stage, at home, he used to keep dead things and smell them so he could could get an ‘essence of death’… anyways
Soon, Varg vikernes a prominent black metal musician maybe released on parole. He was convicted years ago for murdering a fellow bandmate of his and also for burning 3 churches when he younger. A lot of teenagers in the black metal genre support him, and feel they too would burn churches if it weren’t for the laws, infact in 2004 an Australian guy burnt down a church, he was influenced by Varg’s band Burzum. If he gets released he will be more prolific in his songwriting and anti-Christian ideology.

The whole reasoning behind Varg’s motivations and many black metal communities is that Christians desecrated the graves of their ancestors and destroyed the culture of their forefathers (the vikings and such). So they seek revenge.
Enough of the briefing. Let’s pray that this man Varg maybe enlightened, I’m sure it will cause a massive blow to Satan’s dark army.
