Does the 2 volume set contain the Exorcism rite? I heard that it is missing in this set volume.

Image for those wondering what volumes I am talking about. Its the 2 part compedium for the Rituale Romanum in english

I have the 1991 printing (copyright 1988 with additional blessings)… No it does not appear in either volume.

The hell. I know VatII revised the rite. But not thrown it out completely.

Kinda disappointing that it was excluded…:crying:

People with a legitimate purpose for having the text of the exorcism rite have access to it. That does not include you, so the Church does not want you to have it. You’ll have to deal, I guess.

Incidentally, for those who want De Exorcismis, it definitely exists, and you can find it here. You’ll notice, however, that it is listed as “NOT AVAILABLE.” Only if you knew the secret password – which you don’t – would it become “AVAILABLE.”

It has not been translated into English. I have a scanned copy however, which if you really want I can send to you.

My guess is that it is not included because (1) usually the things high on the priority list for translation are liturgical books which are more often used for/by the faithful and so obviously things like the Sacramentary, Liturgy of the Hours, Sacraments, etc would take precedence. Exorcisms can be conducted perfectly well in Latin. (2) it was one of the later liturgical books to be revised and came after ‘The Rites’ was published.

Although most of it is for use by priest-exorcists, there is a section at the back for use by the laity “against the powers of darkness”. It consists of several prayers for deliverance, and common Trinitarian, Christological and Marian invocations, and a Litany of Saints
