I read just yesterday that soon after Roe the conception rate went up 30%, i.e. people became more careless as they saw abortion as a backup plan. So the Roe effect isn’t quite correct as to the numbers that would have been born otherwise.
Something crazy happened back then, that’s all I know. Was it booze and drugs? My generation seemed to go party-crazy in the 1970s. I know I did. I do believe the old drys were right, drinking does breed bad morals. Even if you’re morally uncertain about everything, staying sober keeps you a little more circumspect.
People talk as if natural birth control was impossible, yet my mother used the old rhythm method and did fine, had two boys, then decided she wanted a girl and they had me in 1949. Wasn’t NFP but still it was all planned out. But the Roe and ABC people make out like this is all just too difficult for people.
I think people just got drunk and sloppy…and with abortion legal, the guys had no compunction about telling the gal to “get rid of it.” What a world.
