I am the god mother to my much younger cousin. However, I was raised in a Non-Denominational church. His godfather (his uncle) was raised catholic. Earlier this year, his godfather suddenly passed away of a heart attack. He just started second grade at a Catholic school and will have his First Communion this year. Before his godfather passed away I would have gone to his First Communion and any celebration after and gotten him a gift of some sort. With his godfather no longer here, do I need to do anything additional for him? What do I need to expect at the first communion? The only person that I could really ask about this would be my aunt who is my godson’s mother and the sister of the godfather and she is having a really hard time with the loss of her brother so I don’t want o bring anything up that might upset her.
