The Roman Catholic Church IS a denomination

Actually, The “Holy Catholic Church,” is not and never will be a “denomination,” for she is the Church of Christ. The sundry Protestant Sects have applied the term “denomination,” unto them selves so as to differentiate between one another and most especially to emphasize themselves apart and away from the Holy Apostolic and Catholic Roman Church.

The only deal as far as I am concerned is…

That I was getting “corrected” and seeing others get “corrected” when we use the word “denomination” in connection with your church.

And I was getting very tired of being “corrected”, particularly when I could turn to the dictionary and find my usage totally justified.

Thus I started this thread.

Which I sort of regret. I have been accused of having a “seething hatred” (by somebody on my ignore list…unfortunately his words were quoted) when I know in my heart I have no such thing. Sheesh.

If I have such a “seething hatred” please report any offending post of mine to the moderators. Then they will ban me and you all will be rid of me for good.

I should have remembered my vow that I made to myself a while back never to start threads here, you will live to regret it. Which I do.
It’s interesting that the Orthodox see this whole denomination debacle as strange. They haven’t had a “reformation” that resulted in splintering as we in the Catholic Church have had.

But they are complaining about “Bible only” Christians picking off their low-hanging fruit in predominantly Orthodox countries.

I’m trying to figure out why I was put on his ignore list? For speaking honestly and boldly about the errors of Protestantism?

Perhaps it is because when you’re lost down the dark alleys of enquiry through Protestantism, no one likes the smart alec who shines the light ahead to reveal the wall of the dead-end!

(That’s not mine by the way)

Am I to understand that it is your contention that the dictionary is divinely inspired or written by God?.

The Catholic Church is not a denomination in my personal lexicon;
So, your personal lexicon is what?..superior to the dictionary?

**Subjective **interpretations of the word “denomination” vs. objective, factual english dictionary terms…

You have to remember, when you are on a Catholic forim, use Catholic terminology. Call ua demomination all you like on Prtoestant forums, but not here.

Again…the dictionary disagrees with you.

Words have meaning. The dictionary is what we use to arbitrate meaning.

Evidently you care about this btw.
no matter wht you call the Roman Catholic Church, it is still the Church Christ established and the one He wants all his children to belong to…

A rose by any other name…

Ummm…“here” as you call it, is the Non-Catholic Religions sub-forum, actually.

Which dictionary?

It amuses me that of all that is written in the post you quote, you choose to remark about the dictionary.

Am I to understand that you agree that all Christianity is under the auspices of the Catholic Church (whether or not you agree or like it)?

and… your point is?

are we not to discuss certain things here? If not, what??
I could ask you the same thing. We are in a Non-Catholic Religion sub-forum, the one place where the OP can voice his frustration, and even here you all shut him down, with circular arguments, and then you tell us that we can’t argue it in this forum, because it’s a Catholic forum, even when it’s not.

My point is:
I’ll ask your question right back at you:…if not here, then where???

What?
We are talking about the dictionary term for “Denomination” and how the Catholic church can be classified as one, according to the official, recognised, english dictionary term, as opposed to someone’s “personal Lexicon”… just incase you haven’t followed the thread.

That’s the point of the thread…it’s the rason it got started, no?

And, to your leading, rhetoric, I say: Of course not, have you not read my posts stating which side fof the line I’m on?

If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen…

I mean, the OP knows there are a lot of Catholics here… and so far, i dont see all the negativity you relate…

One is overly sensitive when one’s belief system is questioned… but tht doesn’t mean the quetioners are mean or cruel or wahtever you think they are…

(maybe you should give me an example of someone being … whatever yo call it… against OP… and also an example of “circular reasoning”… The truth is not circular or whatever. It is people who find it so…

God wanted ONE Church… JEsus (St. Jn) prayed for unity…

so far, God isn’t getting what he wants… 😦 but then, wht else is new? that rarely happens anyway in this world… which is why Jesus said there are few who make it onto the narrow pathway to Heaven… nobody wants to do God’s will… too busy doing their own…

Why no response to my point:

that whatever you call it, it is still the True Church???

(But then, what response can there be?? ) It is the only one that’s been around since the time of Christ.

Although, as humans we are all equal, and as Christians we are brothers (& sisters) it is in the variety of levels and ‘status’ that differentiates us.

The same as in Christian churches.

The Church can not be a denomination, any more than a parent can be a sibling of the OFFSPRING!

**The tree cannot be it’s branch!

Jesus was not an Apostle.

The template is not the photograph, as beautiful the photo may be!

The Church is not a denomination of Herself!**

The dictionary definition is in error ONLY because it included The Catholic Church among it’s list, which denotes ignorance in research and understanding the origins of terminology. You can actually find in older versions dictionaries that define the term correctly, with an appropriate explanation that a denomination is a *splinter or PRODUCT * of the original.

Well, on taht we can agree, there is most certainly no unity in the church and from the looks of things here, there never will. No one wants to even be a tiny bit ecumenical at all.

To answer that you have to define Truth, with a uppercase “T”.

You will define it as an absolute truth, transcending all people or beliefs or points of view.

And then I’ll ask you to prove that.

Prove that this Truth you so vehemently claim is an absolute 100% fact.
You can’t.
It’s recorded in a book that’s a secondhand hearsay account, et best. It’s labeled divinely inspired because a few men decided it to be so, based on their own criteria they nailed down themselves.
Now if that’s no subjectivity, then nothing is.

You can’t prove that the holy spirit did this, inspired then or even led then. It’s all hearsay, some guy told you to believe it because their innermost circle wrote it and decided it.
Subjective.

Can’t stand the heat?
I think that you guys are in our kitchen now 😃

This is never going to be resolved.

Have a great weekend everyone! 🙂

It most decidedly IS a Catholic forum. It is the Catholic Answers Forums section of www.catholic.com! The Non-Catholic religion sub-froum is NOT a place for Protestants to vent frustrations about the Holy Catholic Church, and expect we Catholics to just sit back and not defend her! It is a place for reasoned discussion about Non-Catholic religions, and how they compare with Catholicism. You seem to think that it is a safehaven for anti-Catholic hogwash! You can go to one of your Prtestant websites to spread misinformation about Catholicism and go unchallenged. Here you will be corrected.

Lacking a tangible link with the evidence from your vantage and commencement point, of course you would end up with such a mishmash of your shortcomings as above.

Perhaps you consider your assumptions as “heat” when in fact they are suffering from a mild case of emotive verbiage!

We can trace the lineage of Popes back to Peter and through him, Christ! Christ spoke of The One True God as His Father, whilst clearly displaying the attributes that defined Him as being The Same God He speaks of. Rising from the dead is no mean feat.

It is THROUGH CHRIST that we know God exists! It is also THROUGH CHRIST that all of Scriptures is validated! Without Him, the Jews are delusional and can keep their scrolls to themselves.
