The Roman Missal

Is there much of a difference between the Roman Missals of 1961 and those of 1962. I know that the Masses of the Extradordinary Form are celebrated according to the 1962 Missal, but in terms of readings etc. would a member of the congregation be wrong to use a 1961 Missal, or is the 1961 Missal completely defunct?

A member of the congregation is not wrong to use a different year missal. Actually lay missals are prayerbooks, not missals per se. Laypeople can use whatever they want although in some cases it may be easier to use one year than another. e.g. if you are familiar enough, and don’t mind changes in temrinology in the calendar, you could use a 1940 missal. But it may lack some Masses of saints, or texts for other occasional Masses (like the Assumption) may be changed.

With regard to altar missals, used by a priest, no, there is minimal difference - slight altering of a few rubrics, a couple more Votive Masses, and the name of St. Joseph in the Canon.
