The Rosary and Evangelization

Hi,

I just wanted to encourage everyone to use the rosary when they are evangelizing. Of all the prayers in the universe, this is the most powerful one for evangelizing the world. I am wondering what all of your experiences of praying the Rosary for the purpose of evangelization are? Do you have any thought on the role of the prayer given to us by the Queen of the Holy Rosary in the work of making disciples of all nations?

Well i’m a Catechist and as such I pray for the children God has entrusted me to Evangelize (which are 22). One of these children at first, happened to be an atheist (only 8 years old and already an atheist…). I have included all these children (specially him) in my daily rosaries and so far I do see some progress. The 8 year old at first said “I do not believe in God” etc

Now he says he believes a little bit. Hopefully with the power of the Rosary his belief in God and his Church will progress little by little.

As for me, praying the Rosary everyday has indeed have a great impact in me. I have always believed in what the Church has taught me, but there was a short period of time in which I started questioning some things that seemed odd about our Church. But now I have doubt. I think my beliefs have become more solid since I pray the Rosary for the reason that 1 of the promises our Lady gave us (for however prays the Rosary) is that heresies will not prevail (over the person praying it daily).

As a convert from an evangelical church I am afraid it would have been an hindrance to me. You see I first started in believing in the Real Presence of Christ in the eucharist.So I was realing wanting to become catholic. The issue of Marion devotions was the bigest hurdle for me to evercome. If some catholic person started to get me to say the Rosary it might have discouraged me into thinking that this is the most important issue in the c hurch and could have driven me away. I am so glad that did not happen and I am now a very happy catholic that says the Hail Mary prayers. A cradle catholic has no idea how difficult it can be to accept these things. After being brought uo to believe that catholics pray to and worship Mary it would not be wise to think that this would be a good way to evangelize a protestant.

I recently read “The Secret of the Rosary” and St Louis De Montfort explains several times that the Rosary was used many times in history to convert heretics.

I taught English overseas in a country that is not Christian. I would pray for certain students, offering one decade of the rosary for one student, sometimes i would pray a complete rosary or one set of mysteries for one student or one of my friends.

I saw some of them have great interest in Christianity and was able to take many of them to experience Mass for the first time.

I really believe the rosary is a powerful tool to use in evangelism. The Blessed Mother really draws people to her Son.

Joshua, have you read “Salavtion is of the Jews.” This Jewish man (Lord, help me remember his name) upon deciding to be a Christian, after a great deal of study, he would not join a protestant Church because they did not have “that Lady” adored. It is a great story… you can get it on CD.

Scott Hahn also had a difficulty with understanding Mary. One day towards the end of
his search he said the prayer,O Lord, I am going to say the Rosary. And if it is wrong,
please forgive me a sinner, because I don’t know if this is right or wrong, but I will try it.

Then he prayed the rosary and that was all there was to it from then on.

But I know it would be hard when you have been swayed for years to be opposed to this.
Emotions are much harder to overcome than intellectual arguments.

Just a thought on it.

Praying the Rosary publicly and wearing the Rosary, are great ways to evangelize. When asked about It. Simply say the Rosary is a tool I use to meditate on the life of Christ. From the announcement of His birth through His enthronment in Heaven. If people comment about repetative prayer being warned about in the Bible. Let them know the Hail Marys allow you to time your meditations on the different segments of the Gospel and life of Christ. So, that you move along with your thoughts and complete your meditations over the entire Gospel in a timely manner.
By the way, have you ever noticed that it takes about an hour to pray the Rosary and about an hour is also an appropriate time to spend in an Adoration Chapel ?
