I have looked at different things. How can I remember the Rosary? I have seen different ‘versions’. One website tells me something, another website tells me a more or less detailed information. Which one do I know is correct?

Also, I read you don’t have to be Catholic to be able to pray this. But I have a problem. I can’t go to a local Catholic Church because 1) Being not able to leave on my own, I can’t drive. 2) My a. parents currently do not know about this. Therefore, I can’t get a Rosary to guide me. Fingers confuse me because I tend to count a finger up when I didn’t mean too. Or I forget to and think that I did. So any suggestions?

This is a good guide on how to pray the Rosary - ewtn.com/Devotionals/prayers/rosary/how_to.htm

I don’t know what I’d suggest for getting a rosary, but as for counting with your fingers, I can tell you I used to lose track a lot too, over time I eventually started getting it right…actually I tended to forget where I was whether I was using my fingers or a rosary. 😛
Glad to hear you’re praying the Rosary anyway, it’s one of the most powerful prayers around. God bless 🙂

Learning to pray the Rosary is really complicated. I made so many mistakes for so long… for getting to change beads, changing halfway through the Hail Mary, and if I decided to pray it when I was away from home, I would mix up the mysteries and usually end up one short :o

What really helped me was I got a cassette recording–now one can get MP3s, of course.

I can’t link easily right now, but for audio, I just search for audio Rosary, or audio Scriptural Rosary, which is when they say a couple of relevant lines from Scripture before each Hail Mary.

There is a nice set of Scriptural Rosaries on You tube that I will find a link to because it’s not straightforward to find. It has the Scripture written on the screen, and displays lots of pictures. It also has a little Rosary marker. And there is music and bells.

The main part of the Rosary is the decades–the beginning and ending prayers have been added over time, so they vary. Don’t worry about variations–they are wonderful bit not necessary to have prayed a Rosary, if you see what I mean.

Also, for now you can use fingers, or you could tie ten knots in a piece of string, or slide ten beads on. Then you’d be like the peasants who originally started the Rosary 🙂

There are rosary apps…do you have an ipod touch or iphone? Or would they know if you downloaded one?

I own a Rosary made mostly of twine. (The crucifix is made of metal.) I not only use that Rosary on a daily basis, I carry that Rosary in my front pocket. It is always with me. At night I like to go for a walk and silently pray the Rosary while doing so.

Please take a look at the following website:

rosaryarmy.newevangelizers.com/

This great organization will send you a twine Rosary for FREE. All you have to do is go to their website and request one. They will also send you a detailed pamphlet showing you how to pray the Rosary. The pamphlet is also free.

The Hahn family sells cord Rosaries. I’ve purchased a couple of Rosaries from them over the years. I’ve always been very pleased with the Rosaries this beautiful family has made for me. Please see:

Sometimes when I don’t have a rosary on me, I use tally marks like - ||||| on a piece of paper to count the Hail Marys. I just use a piece of paper, a post-it note, back of an envelope, anything just to make marks. I’ve said the rosary like this on the bus, waiting for an appointment, etc.

I’ve already memorized the prayers, but obviously you can still do this with reading the prayers, it’s just a way to keep track.

If you have a smartphone or a tablet there are several apps for saying the rosary where you don’t have to have an actual rosary in your hands.

Here is an easy to follow “how to” about praying the rosary, with all the prayers. Also, descriptions, and meditations on the mysteries:

To our good Lord and His holy Mother it is not a “mistake” to accidentally skip a bead or whatever. At times you may want to put your own special prayers at the very end of the Rosary.

Your sincere desire to pray and meditate on the mysteries is what counts. Even distractions can be expected…every time you recognize you are distracted and turn your attention back to the prayer, you are choosing the Lord over the distraction.

The Rosary is a school of prayer!

Here´s one rosary site…
comepraytherosary.org/

There are sites that would send you a free rosary, but being you´re still a minor, that doesn´t sound like it´d currently be an option for you. Perhaps after you are of age, it might be something to keep in mind.

How old are you?

Inspired by the story of how slain reporter James Foley prayed the Rosary using his knuckles, I made my own way to keep count of 10 Hail Mary’s using just one hand, no beads needed. I have not used beads for praying the Rosary for several weeks now, and because of this I can pray it anytime anywhere in secret.

  1. *]Place thumb (same hand) on index finger’s first joint (the one nearest the knuckle joint)
*]Place thumb on middle finger’s first joint
*]Place thumb on ring finger’s first joint
*]Place thumb on pinkie finger’s first joint
    *]Make a fist
*]Place thumb on pinkie finger’s second joint
*]Place thumb on ring finger’s second joint
*]Place thumb on middle finger’s second joint
*]Place thumb on index finger’s second joint
*]Place thumb’s joint on the long bone of the index finger, forming a cross

Of course, you can make your own ways of doing this.

    God bless!
