"The Rosary is the most powerful prayer"

I’ve seen that statement written several times on the forums and I wanted to know the basis for it. I have been praying it since RCIA (though not daily). I pray it when I’m doing certain novenas, at adoration, on turbulent flights :(, anytime it comes to my mind to pray it. I read something about the 15 promises Mary gave for those who prayed the Rosary and I believe any/every prayer strikes fear in the heart of Satan. But what makes the Rosary the most POWERFUL prayer? Is there a scriptural or catechismal (is that a word? :p) basis for it or is it just a general consensus? Thanks for answering my questions!
 
There is no church doctrine, as such for the Rosary, and many people will debate you on whether it is the most powerful prayer. I personally believe that it is. It was given to St. Dominic by Our Lady in 1214 as a means of converting heretics and sinners. There is, of course, the famous Battle of Lepanto in 1571, which is commemorated on October 7, the Feast of our Lady of the Rosary. The Ottoman Turks were threatening to invade and conquer Europe. On October 7, Pope Pius V and many faithful were praying the Rosary, and even though everything favored the Turks, the Christians still won, and Pius V credited the Rosary with turning things in their favor. And this is still celebrated in the Church to this day.

Most powerful? Does the Our Father and Jesus Prayer just take second place?
 
I cannot give the exact answer for you but see The Apparition of the Lady of Fatima and Apparition in Medjugorje.

This are not the exact words but it says that the Blessed Mother encourages us to pray the rosary.
 
I am going to be criticized for this, but I personally believe that the most powerful prayers are the Our Father, since it was given to us by God Himself, and a prayer of sincere repentance whereby someone abandons his sinful lifestyle and turns to God in conversion.

That does not mean I don’t consider the Rosary a very powerful prayer. I do, indeed. The devil fears the Mother of God, and hates the Rosary. Padre Pio called it his “weapon.” I just consider it one of the top three, not #1.

I do belong to the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary. There are many graces and blessings for devotion to our Lady. The Rosary is a private devotion and no one has to pray it, but those who don’t are missing out on many blessings!

It is THE devotion to Mary. It incldues everything that isnecessary to give the Blessed Virgin an act of love. With the HailMary, you tell Her that you love Her and you ask Her for help while the mysteries are there as a meduim for Mary to inspire good thoughts in you and to be virtuous. Best of all, its all mutual because if you give Mary a Hail Mary, She’ll hail you even more then like the time She said “Hail Bernard” to Saint Bernard when he was minding his own business. She’llgive you grace and bring you up to heaven if you show Her lots of love.
 
For me personally I think it is the most powerful prayer. It seems that when I ask for help or guidance it’s better just to pray the rosary and not ask directly. Somehow I just pray the rosary everyday and things work out before I even know I need it. Our mother knows what we need before we do.

I recently read about Our Lady of Fatima. I will look into the Medjugorje.

This is great. I’m still developing my relationship with Mary. The fact that an *archangel *saluted her as such is enough for me to know that she is worthy of at least that (and probably more).
 
I wonder if people think the Rosary is so powerful because it has everything:

-The Hail Mary (devotion to her and requesting her intercession)
-the Our Father (which Jesus taught us)
-The Glory Be (in worship of the Trinity)
-Fatima prayer (direct prayer to Jesus asking for Mercy)

That’s how I’m relating to Mary, like a child. My own mother is not very touchy-feely so it’s kinda cool to have this new mother figure. :o
