Forgive me if this has been posted a ton of times previously. Does anyone use these cds to pray the rosary? I find that I get easily distracted and I found Gretchen Harris on Itunes and love it. I was wondering if anyone has any tips on what they do with this cd?

Would it be inappropriate to bring my ipod and rosary to adoration with me? I never see anyone with headphones on and not sure if someone might think its rude. Obviously I wouldn’t have it so loud that people could hear from my headphones?

A little bg, but I am really struggling with some habitual sins (trying to fight temptation, etc) and find during my prayer time that this is the exact time that my mind goes crazy. I think this cd would really help me concentrate, or at least meditate to it without any other thoughts.

What do you think?

I have been praying the Rosary for quite some time now and I still get distracted. It is all part of prayer. When we try to commune with God, of course there will be other forces not too happy with us and they will try to tempt us and confuse us and derail us. Some distractions are bad ones. If they occur simply apologise to the Lord and tell satan to get lost.

Work is pleasing to God and trying to keep our minds on our conversation through the Rosary is indeed work! God will always bless effort.

On the other hand, if the distractions come in the form of people and places then offer them to God in prayer! Turn your distractions into prayer itself. When you do this you will find that they will soon diminish in frequency and intensity. If, during your Rosary, you start remembering a conversation you had with Uncle Todd yesterday on the phone, the pray for Uncle Todd. Sometimes our distractions are actually promptings!!

We must remember that what the Lord wants is conversation from the heart, even if it is distracted. Our determination to overcome distraction and get ourselves back online no matter how often in one session of prayer is most pleasing to God.

I would be very slow to use headphones simply for the distraction they would set for others. Not only would the sound be slightly audible, the sight of someone using them would be a little strange and not understood by many. By the way by using headphones it does not assure that distractions will end, in fact they won’t.

There is a time and place for them alright, out walking, jogging etc but not in front of the Blessed Sacrament. It would be akin to giviing up digging the garden and hiring someone else to do it simply because of the frequent telephone calls we received during our work time.

I have the recording of the Rosary done by the Irish singer named DANA, and it is a beautiful CD, but unfortunately for me, I get distracted by the loveliness of Dana’s voice and the Irish Brogue of the Father (Scallon?) who narrates the tape with her, and I can’t concentrate on the mysteries very well.
So, I just say my Rosary without listening to a cd.

That’s what I’m worried about. Liking the CD so much that I can’t concentrate on that either. But there is no harm in just listening to the rosary even if you aren’t actively praying it at the time. I mean I can think of worse things to have on your ipod!
