The Rosary Outloud?

I was recently informed that when we pray the Rosary we are to say it audibly and not to ourselves. I never heard this before, is it true?
That’s bunk. There is a special indulgence granted for praying it with a group, and one of the churches that I go to has it before the noon Mass every day. I like that.
Pax tecum,

Personally, I find it easier to concentrate when saying it in my head. If my mind is talking then it has a hard time doing anything else, so I don’t wander as much. When I speak it audibly, its so rythmic that my lips just repeat the words and my mind concentrates on other stuff.

I find that I start out the Creed and the other prayers at the beginning in full voice, but once I’m into the first decade, I become very quiet. Like someone said above, however, I have to at least move my lips, otherwise I become lost.

Where do the Mysteries fit in, there?

For me, it’s hard to both visualize the Mysteries in my mind, and pray in my head - I think the same part of my brain is trying to do both tasks - but if I pray the prayers out loud or at least move my lips, then I can “see” the action of the Mysteries in my mind a lot easier. (I visualize them like little movies playing in my head.)

Yeah, I have a hard time concentrating. St. Louis de Montfort has a technique that has helped me a lot: to add a descriptive word or phrase that corresponds to the Mystery after the word “Jesus” in the Hail Mary, like so:

Fifth Luminous Mystery: The Last Supper

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus in the Sacrament of Love. Holy Mary…

Or: First Glorious Mystery: Jesus Rises from the Dead

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus Who conquered death. Holy Mary…

Give this a try and see if it helps! Coming up with words or phrases to insert itself helps you contemplate the Mystery.
