I try to say it everyday, but if nobody is going to say it with me or if I’ve missed it on EWTN at 8:30 or 10:30 (I refuse to do the 2:30 one since the people drive me nuts) I lose all of my motivation to do it. I’m simply not a self-starter, and I never want to do it alone. It always takes me about half an hour since I’m used to saying it with the Nuns and automatically say it at that pace, and when I think of that time-frame I think “It’s just going to take so long…” I love to say the Rosary, but nothing motivates me. Is there anything that can motivate me? I’ve read all of Mary’s promises for those who say the Rosary, and that always motivates me to do it, but with other people. I suppose it’s been decided I could never be a Hermit? 😃

It seems, in this regard, we’re diametric opposites: I really prefer to say the rosary by myself, at my own pace, and selecting my own meditation on the theme of each particular mystery! It drives me absolutely nutty when I’m in a large group that insists on sing-songing the Aves.

Maybe I would have made a good hermit.

The beauty of all this? Despite the view of outsiders that we are all in lockstep with Rome, there is plenty of room for individual expression of spirituality within the Catholic Church! The Rosary lends itself to a very wide variety of expressions on a theme, or themes, just check out several people’s writings on the rosary.

Find what works for you. Our Blessed Mother is pleased with the variety of flowers we bring to her in our bouquets of prayer. And if you find praying with the Sisters helpful, they have the DVD of the program available in EWTN’s online store, thus making any time management problems disappear!

Did you notice that you have two options?:
  • worldwide
    – individual
Also, you can choose which mysteries you want to meditate on. And you can add your intentions as well.

Wish they had it in Latin too.

but I only pray the 3 mysteries,The limminuss mystery is not on the one I use.

I don’t sing. I hate singing prayers. This is why I choose to pray with the Nuns. I have never once sung the Rosary before.

Exactly. But does it sing the Rosary on the video? I didn’t look far enough. If they do than that sort of messes everything up for me.

Why don’t you use the Luminous Mysteries?
 
ATeutonicKnight, why don’t you just purchase the dvd from EWTN of Mother Angelica and the Nuns praying the Rosary? It is not expensive and can be purchased online at EWTN.

That way you will still say the prayers at your speed and you will have the motivation of praying with Mother Angelica whenever you choose to. I have the dvd and I must confess, Mother’s speed is too slow for me. 😊 I agree with you; the Rosary at 3:30 (my time) drives me crazy - they say the prayers so fast I can’t catch my breath.🤷

I read in one of Raymond Arroya’s books about Mother that the dvd was made when her health was declining and it took many hours to piece the final product together. I remember that and decide I can slow down to pray with Mother.:nun1:

I’ll let George answer for himself, but I don’t pray them either unless I happen to be at at certain parish in town for the noon weekday Mass on Thursday.

They aren’t required and aren’t part of the traditional Rosary.
 
I have a scriptural rosary cd, I don’t recall off hand who is on it. I play it in my car and recite the rosary while driving. I don’t have my beads out though, and most people that drive by me think I am singing. I try to do so on my way home from work as going through a set of mysteries is about 20 minutes long.

I do like watching the Holy Land Rosary in the mornings and the International Rosary in the afternoons on EWTN on my days off work.

There is a number of reasons why I absolutely will not under any circumstance pray with the people at 2:30 (The time depends on your location): The girl’s accent drives me nuts and it’s all I can think about, she completely messes up the Hail Mary and modernizes it, taking away the thou’s and such, they pray way too fast, making it impossible for me to think about the mysteries, the fact everyone says every prayer in unison drives me nuts since I have always done it in a fashion where one leads one decade and then someone else does, and, most importantly, all of the videos of people completely take my mind away from the mysteries. It makes no sense. “The next mystery is the Agony In The Garden.” Shows video of cop praying the Rosary

That is sad. What’s good to know is that Father Benedict Groeschel said he asked the Nuns about her and they said she was as alert and mentally aware as ever. They said she’s just praying all of the time. It’s interesting to know that she at one point prayed the Hail Mary’s faster though. I always wondered why the Nuns prayed faster than she did.

Well, just because they aren’t a part of the Traditional Rosary doesn’t mean they should be thrown to the side. They were put together by Blessed John Paul the Great, a huge advocate of traditionalism. All of the great orders (Including Dominicans) pray them. I’m not saying you have to, but if it’s a concern of tradition there is no need. Saint Dominic would pray them as well, I’m sure.

I’m not sure you can read saints minds so please refrain from saying ‘I’m sure St Dominic would…’ Seeing as they are not in the mysteries he himself received from the Blessed Virgin Mary or at the very least put together under her inspiration I cannot see why he would pray them 🤷 As for the dominicans praying them I’m not so sure they do, the Rosary confraternity does not require its members to say the luminous mysteries but merely the traditional three.

As for Bl John Paul II being a supporter of traditionalism, I don’t have any idea where you got that from either 🤷 He was undoubtedly a great supporter of the Rosary, St Louis de montfort etc… but he was conservative not traditional, it would be wrong to mischaracterise his views.

I cannot read a Saint’s mind, but I can assure you that he would recite mysteries that are perfectly fine and any good Catholic should have no problem with. And yes, I have seen many Dominicans pray the Luminous Mysteries. If they were of any problem, trust me, his order wouldn’t stand for it. The Luminous Mysteries are all scriptural and part of the deposit of faith. Trust me, if they were of any problem, Mother Angelica and the Nuns at Our Lady of Angels wouldn’t use them. Popes have added to the Rosary before. So even the Rosary you recite now has been added to since it was revealed to Saint Dominic. John Paul II wasn’t a traditionalist in the strictest sense of the word, but he was traditional and wouldn’t stand for it if someone was trying to change something that shouldn’t be changed. For instance, when it was brought up that there should just be a prayer of absolution instead of actually going to confession, he was on the side of traditionalism and practicality, saying that it shouldn’t be changed and a prayer of absolution should only be used in emergencies like it is being used now.
 
jmj1984, are you actually saying that you will not pray the Luminous Mysteries because they are a relatively new addition to the Rosary? The Mysteries of the Rosary are to bring us in communion with Jesus - as we pray the different Mysteries we are traveling with Him through His life. The Luminous Mysteries added in 2002 by Pope John Paul II were meant to aid us in this travel. The Luminous Mysteries focus on the public life of Jesus.

I have heard people on CAF say they refuse to pray the Fatima Prayer between decades - even though it was a specific request of Our Blessed Mother that it be added - because it is not part of the Traditional Rosary. Wow!

ATeutonicKnight, I don’t object to the use of the picture of the police officer taking a few minutes out of his day to pray the Rosary. What bothers me is the speed at which the prayers are said, which, as you said, make it difficult to meditate on the Mysteries. And, the constant over-talking of different languages bothers me.

I think you should buy the dvd of Mother Angelica and the Nuns praying the Rosary. That would make you happy and increase your love for the Rosary.:heaven:
