I am a very busy man. It seems like I wake up and I am going to bed already.
Presently I am reading a book called “The Rosary in Action” by John S. Johnson.

I havent said the Rosary in 40 years plus. I think I did it with my Mom when I was a kid. I never new about the Mysteries. All I remember is Saying the prayers. Now I am reading the different Mysteries are for different days and you have to meditate the Mysteries while Praying.

My question is:
I know this might sound stupid to the lot of you, but how long does it take to say the full Rosary as a beginner?

I am asking this so I can plan the day and days for quiet time.
I want to do this right, not just rush through it. I want to put my heart into it.

I’d allow maybe 35 minutes per 5 decades (50 Hail Marys) for a beginner. Maybe 40. But it will become a lot quicker and easier as you go.
 
Maybe you could start by saying one decade slowly the first day. Adding a decade each day. That would give you a chance to get used to it and get familiar with it. By the fifth day you would be saying the rosary.🙂
 
It usually takes me about 20 minutes on my own. I read somewhere (it may have been on this site) that Bishop Fulton Sheen called the rosary the perfect prayer because it takes 17 minutes to pray, and that is what science has said is the normal attention span of an adult.

I then checked my rosary CD that I use in my car and adding up the times does equal about 17 minutes. I must pray it a little slower on my own.
 
It takes me about 20 minutes, plus or minus depending on if I stop in the middle with prayer of my own words. Since I have been praying daily Rosary for many years, I recite all the Bible verses of mysteries by heart. I don’t have to read the mysteries but recite them along with reflection.
 
So when do you meditate on the Mysteries? During the saying of the Hail Mary’s?
Plus, from what I am reading, certain Mysteries are for certain days.
 
Yes, before each decade you say “The first joyfull mystery the annunciation of Gabriel to Mary” for example and pray meditating on that mystery.

If you check out this PDF document, it has instructions and also the mysteries, the days what mystery goes where and the Bible readings relevant. If I have more time (eg praying the rosary as a family) one of us praying will read the relevant passage from the Bible brfore each decade.

VERY inspirational !!

I don’t pray all 20 decades of the Rosary every day (though I do pray all 20 mysteries in a day once in a while).

I pray 5 mysteries a day usually. I allot 30 to 45 minutes to say my 5 mysteries of the Rosary and to meditate seriously on the mysteries. Racing through the Rosary prevents you from meditating on the mysteries, and that’s the most important part.

When on occasion I do pray all 20 mysteries (say on a Saturday or a Sunday), I pray the Joyful mysteries when I get up,
and then pray a mystery every once in a while throughout the day, spaced out between mysteries, and that way I don’t have to go through all 20 in one sitting. My attention span isn’t good enough to pray all 20 mysteries at once. Whatever works best for you, but be sure you can meditate fruitfully on the mysteries.

I try to say 5 decades before I fall asleep, so sometimes it takes me all night! Seriously, it takes about 20 minutes unless I get involved in thinking about the intentions and just talking to God.

👍 Congratulations in taking up this devotion; you will receive many blessings bc of it, I’m sure. I’ve written answers to prayer I’ve had in other threads. I am sure my one son was saved from injury in a rollover car accident he had while serving in the military in Sicily. Confirmation: he said a rose bush was stuck in the grill of the car!
And another son was returned to me who’d been given up at birth
(27 yrs ago) after I’d said a 27 day novena for my children; at the time, I didn’t even know if he was alive or not! We’ve been reunited for just over 4 yrs now. Truly a miracle. I have rarely missed my daily rosary since then.

So keep praying! My problem is, there is so much to pray for, I sometimes don’t know what the intention should be.
