I had tried in the past to pray the Rosary and for whatever reason did not find it to be helpful. Then I began praying it using the scriptural Rosary (same concept) and mysteries but between each Hail Mary meditating on the appropriate scripture verse. It was wonderful! I finished the Rosary and continued praying (praise and petition).

What I found is that praying the Rosary prior to my regular prayer made my prayer time more fruitful and helped prepare my heart for dialogue with God.

Here is a link to at least one version of the scriptural Rosary (King James Version) from the Anglican Catholic Education Center. I also like looking at the information from EWTN for each Mystery prior to praying.

I find praying and mediating the rosary with Scripture more uplifting than praying it the normal way without Scripture. You could also try adding Scripture Reading on each 1st Mysteries by reading the account of stories. For example, if you were to pray Luminous, and the first mystery is the Transfiguration. You would read the entire passage of Bible about Jesus transfiguration followed by Our Father, and then 10 Hail Marys. The prayer will be much longer… probably 45 mins long…
 
A good booklet that has a scripture verse for each Hail Mary is ‘A Scriptural Rosary’ from New Hope Publications.
Distractions are a big problem with me when I say the rosary, so having a verse for each Hail Mary helps.

I have the same book too.
 
My catholic radio station has Fr Groeschel and Simonetta on every night at 11pm doing the rosary, I try to say it with them. It makes it easier to say when you have someone with you.

I hardly ever lose concentration whilst praying this and it includes the mysteries, as well as other prayers from people all over the world.

Scriptural Rosary???

I didn’t know there was more than one kind…

Is a scriptural rosary when you read the scriptural text before praying the Our Father and the 10 Hail Mary’s?

What other kind of rosary is there?
 
I’m really hoping to try the Sciptural Rosary sometime. I’ve always been afraid to in the past, because I really do wonder if I’ll be able to stay focused for really long. And unfortunately, I also can’t just give up an hour when there is so much other work that needs to be done. But everyone who prays it regularly has said it’s really helpful and beneficial, so maybe starting off just once a month or once a week wouldn’t be a bad idea.

I use a scriptural rosary, but I read the scripture in my head as I’m saying the Hail Mary’s. Since my mind has to do two things at once I don’t get distracted as easily. And it doesn’t add extra time that way.
 
Be sure to close your eyes when you meditate (unless you’re driving!) on the mysteries. It really helps to eliminate the distractions.

Adding a short phrase after the word “Jesus” in the Hail Mary helps too, i.e., “and blessed is the fruit of thy womb JESUS, suffering on the cross for me”, or “blessed is the fruit of thy womb JESUS, being scourged for my sins”, or something like that. It really helps to focus you on the mystery, and prevents your mind from wandering.

The link I posted above has you meditating on the scripture for each of the ten hail Mary’s. Same mysteries but rather than the broad concept it has the specific scripture.

Confused:

I have been praying the rosary and today someone said that the Luminous mystery was added by John Paul II? If so, then what is the traditional rosary that our Blessed Mother Mary gave to us? 🤷

in the more conventional way the scripture passage is recalled to mind when the mystery is announced
in a scriptural rosary, often with a booklet as guide, the actual passage is read before the decade, or verses between the prayers. this is actually the method recommended by Pope John Paul II in his letter on the Rosary issued shortly before his death, when he gave us the luminous mysteries…

got it from a shrine I went to;It has all the fruits listed and a special verse for each mystery;

They pray it for Priests and the Safeguarding of Embryonic Human Life;

FIVE NEW MYSTERIES OF THE ROSARY

Mysteries of Light are suggested for Thursday,
as they contemplate the Public Life of Jesus

“Rosarium Virginis Mariae,” the apostolic letter proclaimed by Pope John Paul II today, describes the Rosary of the Virgin Mary as a compendium of the Gospel oriented to the contemplation of Christ’s face through Mary’s eyes and the repetition of the “Hail Mary.” The Pope suggests adding five new mysteries wherein Christ manifests Himself in His public ministry. These are called the “Mysteries of Light” because Christ so called Himself: “While I am in the world, I am the Light of the World.” (John 9:5) Christians are asked to contemplate the mysteries revealed in each of these Gospel passages as they pray each decade of the Rosary.
