The Sacraments

[Josephite]

This is a rather big question but I’m hoping to get it answered here.

For each of the following six sacraments (baptism, confirmation, penance, matrimony, orders, anointing the sick), can you please tell me:
Scriptural quotes for the establishment of each sacrament;
For each sacrament, what must be the intent of the minister who administers the sacrament;
What is the form for each sacrament;
What is the matter of each sacrament?

[Spirithound]

For each sacrament, what must be the intent of the minister who administers the sacrament;

Here’s the easy one: To do what the Church does.

The Compendium will help you with that. I went through the course a couple of months ago. Our Sacraments are transitions from the Old Testament.

Do you need this for a school paper, or just out of your interest?

I’ll help you where I can.

Info on form & matter & Scripture on Baptism:

catholicism.about.com/od/beliefsteachings/p/Sac_Baptism.htm

In Judaism, every male was circumcized to become a member of God’s family.

Jesus (establishing Trinitarian monotheism) instituted Baptism with water and in the words, “I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”

There is more to the Rite of Baptism ceremony and that can be found here:

In the Compendium, the number listed in thousands (1290 2990 2358 etc) are the paragraph numbers in the Catechism which will provide additional information - and will many times refer to Sacred Scripture or other books used to answer particular questions.

The Catechism is also available in various places online:
